  1. On this sad day, we gather here,

To celebrate a life so dear.

A century of wisdom, love, and grace,

Aunt Mary, you’ve left an indelible trace.

Your Slovak heritage, a tale so grand,

Of courage and heart, and a brave new land.

Joseph and Rose, who crossed the sea,

Their legacy lives on, beautifully in thee.

Holy Trinity Grade School in Soulard’s embrace,

Instilled values that time cannot erase.

In the heart of St. Louis, your journey began,

Building a life with a strong, guiding plan.

At Terminal Railroad, your mark you made,

    An administrator, diligent and staid.

Walking five miles, come rain or shine,

Your commitment to work was a true sign.

Not driving a car, yet finding your way,

Resourceful and humble, day by day.

You’ve shown us all, with strength so bright,

That success is achieved with determined might.

Aunt Mary, as we celebrated your 100th year,

We’re filled with gratitude, joy, and cheer.

Your wisdom, love, and unwavering care,

Have touched our hearts beyond compare.

Your life, an inspiration to everyone,

With resilience and hard work, so much you’ve done.

On that special day, joy abound,

With family, friends, and love all around.

We wished you Happy 100th birthday, with blessings anew,

For a remarkable woman, so steadfast and true.

  2. I first met Aunt Mary when I was about 17 years old. I remember being impressed with how much energy she had. When I later learned that she walked several miles to and from work almost every day I was even more impressed. In the over 50 years that I knew her I saw how much she loved her husband and son. In addition to caring for the men in her life she also invited her mother to live with her. She cared for her mother until the end of her life. When Uncle John got sick near the end of his life, she also lovingly took care of him.
I remember her enjoying going on trips with Marty. Something else I remember, and my children remember too, is how Aunt Mary often thought of them when she went shopping. So many times she would purchase new clothes for my children. They were always happy to receive the many items of clothing she had bought for them. I always appreciated her thinking of my children with so many unexpected gifts.
Over the years, Joe and I would occasionally visit Aunt Mary and Uncle John at their home. They always were glad to see us and made us feel very welcome in their home. Aunt Mary called Joe every year on his birthday to sing to him.
After Uncle John had passed, Aunt Mary would sometimes ask Joe to drive her to Aldi’s when Marty was out of town. She was always very appreciative of the ride. Rest in peace, Aunt Mary, you will be missed by many.

  3. Aunt Mary, with energy boundless and bright,
Stepped each day, morning through the night.
    Walked miles, steady and strong,
A testament to a spirit that never went wrong.

With love that deepened through decades long,
She nurtured her husband, both steadfast and strong.
Her son Marty felt her care in every embrace,
And her mother Rose found comfort, a safe, warm space.

Memories of journeys shared with Marty, so dear,
Moments of laughter, of joy and cheer.
Generous heart, gifts to children she’d bring,
Clothes wrapped with thought, a small joy to spring.

Visits were met with open arms wide,
    Hospitality, warmth, side by side.
Calls on birthdays, songs just for Joe,
A melody simple, but treasured to know.

After your John’s passing, in moments alone,
A ride to Aldi’s, kindness shown.
Appreciation in her eyes, a glimmer of grace,
A life so cherished, impossible to replace.

Rest now, sweet soul, your love will remain,
In the hearts of those touched by joy, and pain.
Your memory, a light that will not cease,
Aunt Mary, may you rest in peace.
