Joan Carolyn O’Brien (née Anderson), 88, passed away on February 18, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on the same date in 1937 in St. Louis to the late Jasper and Buelah Anderson (nee Slayton), sister of the late Donny Anderson and wife of the late Jack O’Brien, she lived a full and vibrant life surrounded by family and friends.
Joan dedicated much of her career to fine dining service at the St. Louis Country Club and The University Club, where she formed lasting friendships and took pride in creating memorable experiences for others.
Beyond her professional life, Joan had a passion for movies, music, craft beer and food, always seeking out great restaurants to enjoy with loved ones. She was an enthusiastic traveler who embraced new experiences. A fun-loving member of the St. Louis Lady’s Craft Beer Tasting Society, where she found joy in sharing good beer and laughter with friends.
Faith played a significant role in Joan’s life. She was a devoted member of Twin Rivers Church and Webster Groves Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed attending classes and Sunday worship services. Her faith provided her with great strength, resolve and companionship throughout her life.
Joan is lovingly remembered by her children: Kathleen (Dave) Rosenkoetter, Matthew O’Brien, Mark (Marnie) O’Brien, and David (Patricia) O’Brien.
She was a proud grandmother to Joseph (Jackie) Deak, David Deak Jr., Sarah Rosenkoetter, David (Paige) Rosenkoetter, Brittany O’Brien, Caitlin O’Brien, Megan O’Brien, Eric O’Brien, Mark (Sadie) O’Brien Jr., Jessica (Alec) O’Brien, Erin O’Brien, Morgan O’Brien, Joshua (Michelle) Moncada, Mitchell Moncada and Cortney Moncada.
Joan was also the proud great grandmother to Rainie Rosenkoetter, Landon Dellevecchia, Skylar Dellevecchia, Arianna Dellevecchia, Braedon Feagin, Hazel O’Brien, Hayden Moncada, Tucker Moncada and Cooper Moncada.
Visitation only: Kutis Affton Chapel (10151 Gravois Rd) on Sunday, March 2nd from 1 pm to 3 pm.
The St. Louis Ladies’ Craft Beer Tasting Society is going to miss Joan O’Brien! She was a role model, a firecracker, an enjoyer of life. We will do our best to profit from her example and emulate her love of life.

My Condolences to the O’brien family. It was a pleasure to work with Joan for 15 plus years between the Uclub and St. Louis Country Club. She was always full of smiles and could make you laugh at any given moment. Can say she was a true professional at her craft. We will miss you Joan!
