Beloved husband of Gloria A. Barrett (nee Brown); loving father of Tina (Mark) Trimble, Cathy (Jim) Panopoulos and Angie (John Honkomp) Barrett; adoring grandfather of Nicholas Trimble, Amanda (Danny) Lindley, Hillary (Davis) Biermann, Kate (fiancé Courtney Bolden) Trimble, Alexandria (Eugene) Morgenthaler, Demetria (Nicholas) Manuel, Olivia (Michael) Johnson, Timothy Johnston, Ashlee Clark, Anthony Johnston, Donovan Barrett and the late Dennis Barrett; cherished great-grandfather of 15, MIchael, Declan, Lena, Desmond, John, Ellie, Owen, Dempsey, Kanan, Sophie, Nora, Noah, Franklin, Luke and August, dear brother of the late Gerald (Sandy) Barrett; dear brother-in-law of June (the late Gary) Wall, Pamela (Fred) Bielby and the late Jack (Nancy) and Gerald (Nancy) Brown. Our dearest uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle and friend to many.
Rico was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers College High School, class of 1954. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division and remained an active member of the 82nd Airborne Association Gateway Chapter in St. Louis. He successfully completed over 32 jumps – an accomplishment he carried with pride throughout his life.
After returning home, Rico married the love of his life, Gloria, and together they built a beautiful life over 69 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a true testament to love, commitment and faith.
Rico had a deep passion for sports. He enjoyed playing soccer, softball, handball and cork ball and he remained connected to the game of soccer by serving as a dedicated USSF referee. Whether on the field or on the sidelines he brought enthusiasm, fairness, and a love for the game.
He worked for many years as a Union Painter with Local 1199, were he was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and pride in his craft. Rico believed in hard work and took great satisfaction in providing for his family.
Above all, Rico was a family man. He never missed an opportunity to express his love and support for his ever-growing family. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and warmth.
Rico’s legacy of love, service, and dedication to family will live on in all who knew him.
Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Wednesday, April 15 at 9:15 am. to St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church for 10:00 am. Mass. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital appreciated. Visitation Tuesday 4-8 pm

  1. Uncle Dick was truly a pleasure to be around. Loved talking “puck” with him, we always had a spirited conversation about our Blues. I will miss seeing him laugh and the joy that always seemed to come from his love of his family. A true patriot, thank you for your service. Keep them straight up top and keep us all in your watch. Thank you for always treating me and my family like gold, it was ALWAYS appreciated!!
    My heartfelt condolences to the entire Barrett clan, such a beautiful family.

  2. A kind and loving soul! His love for his wife and family were ever present. A true model of a caring father and grandfather, but also a friend to all who knew him. Dick, you will be missed!

  3. Rico or Uncle Dick was always a pleasure to be around. He had a way of always making you feel loved and welcome. He always had a great laugh and a warm presence. I remember him fondly from Saturday nights at Pats to family holiday gatherings as a.child. You were a great Uncle to me. Thank you for your service and just for being you. You will be missed but I look forward to seeing.you again in Heaven. God bless you and our heartfelt condolences and love to the entire Barrett clan with love
