Luke Daniel Schave entered into eternal rest on the Lord’s Day, at peace in Christ after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the dear son of Steven and Kimberly Schave (née Carr), the loving brother of Rachel Schave, Sarah (Alex) Hoang-Schave, Leah (Charles) Brockway, and the late Joshua and Zachary Schave, and the cherished grandson of Richard and Ellen Schave, and Barbara and the late William Carr. Luke was also a beloved nephew, cousin, and friend to many.
A graduate of Lutheran South, Luke was a captain of the football and basketball teams and a standout track athlete. He attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he served as president of Lambda Chi fraternity and president of Lutheran Student Fellowship at Southeast Missouri State University (LCMSU). After graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Missouri Army National Guard and had begun preparing to serve as a firefighter. Luke was known as a servant leader—selfless, kind, humble, and courageous. He inspired others to give their best, leading by example with quiet strength and unwavering integrity. Above all, he was steadfast in his Christian faith, never wavering in his witness, even in life’s most difficult moments. Though his time was short, Luke’s impact was far-reaching, touching lives across the world. He has fought the good fight and now rests in peace.

Schave was a wonderful man. I went to AIT at Fort Leonard Wood with him. He was light in the dark always. His nickname was “Chaplain” cause he would always teach us the Lord’s word and brighten our days. I am grateful to have known him and terribly sorry for your families loss.
Steve and Kim, we were so sorry to hear of the passing of Luke. Our prayers and our thoughts are with you and your family. As you know, we lost our son several years ago so we can relate to your sadness. Bless you all. Love, aunt vi and uncle Wally.
so very sorry! wonderful young man from an amazing family.. my love always, sneller
I am so sorry to hear of this. I cannot comprehend of the immense grief that it brings. I am a coworker of Sarah’s. This poem was given to Elanor Roosevelt on the passing of her husband, FDR. It has oft brought me solace, and I hope is does the same for your family.
They Softly Walk by Hugh Robert Orr
They are not gone who pass
Beyond the clasp of hand,
Out from the strong embrace.
They are but come so close
We need not grope with hands,
Nor look to see, nor try
To catch the sound of feet.
They have put off their shoes
Softly to walk by day
Within our thoughts, to tread
At night our dream-led paths
Of sleep.
They are not lost who find
The sunset gate, the goal
Of all their faithful years.
Not lost are they who reach
The summit of their climb,
The peak above the clouds
And storms. They are not lost
Who find the light of sun
And stars and God.
They are not dead who live
In hearts they leave behind.
In those whom they have blessed
They live a life again,
And shall live through the years
Eternal life, and grow
Each day more beautiful
As time declares their good,
Forgets the rest, and proves
Their immortality.

Kim,
My thoughts and prayers are with you, the family, and all of those who loved Luke!
Since hearing of Luke’s illness a few weeks ago, your entire family has been in my prayers. I had a very nice note from him via Messenger, and it was evident that he had grown to be an honorable young adult. Continuing to hold all of his family in our prayers as you mourn. I have fond memories of him being in my class.
Kim and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Luke’s passing. Mrs. Ross called me at work today to let me know this devastating news. You are all in my thoughts. Hugs and Love.
So sorry, our prayers are with you guys!
Much love and prayers to you Steve, Kim, and your family. Wish we were there to hug you.
“All their life in this world and all their adventures had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever in which every chapter is better than the one before”. C. S. Lewis
Luke wasn’t the perfect soldier but he was a good man. Just like the rest of the 554 we knew him as an honest man of God, I wish I was able to hear him talk about the bible one last time. There’s a lot I’m sure we could wish we all had “one last time” but I would rather have an eternity in heaven with him than just “one last time” on this earth. I am very sorry for your loss and I’m sending prayers to the Schave family.
We were heartbroken to hear of Luke’s passing. Our condolences are with you— Steve, Kim, and the girls, during this heavy time of grieving. Those big blue eyes and shock of hair still stand strong in my memory of him as a quiet, always smiling, baby boy. We enjoyed his company immensely at Katie’s wedding, and found he had grown into a tall, soft-spoken, always smiling young man. Our prayers for the Lord’s comfort are with you, now and always.
I’ve only met and spoken to Luke on a few occasions during a two-week military training period in July 2023 in South Dakota. I have no recollection of the conversations we had but I remember how he made me feel – at peace. Despite the long days, sleepless nights, and anxious tests, he made me and others feel at peace. My sincerest condolences and prayers for Luke and his loved ones, family and friends. May God grant him eternal rest and peace.
