William Earl Carter, known affectionately as Bill, passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 79 at his home in Herculaneum, Missouri. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bill was a vibrant soul recognized for his outgoing personality and exceptional athleticism during his high school years.
Bill’s life was marked not only by his sports achievements but also by his role as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had an infectious love for life, whether it was spending time at the lake, dancing, or sharing jokes and laughter with friends and family. His jovial spirit and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bill was predeceased by his longtime partner Judith Vuylsteke, father Earl Carter, mother Velma Stockglausner nee Love, sister Barbara Carter, brother Raymond Carter, and great-granddaughter Susanna Francis. Bill is survived by his children Laura O’Brien nee Carter (Sam), Paula Eckert nee Temple (Greg), Gregory Carter Sr., April Sanders nee Carter (Joel), and Stacey O’Toole nee Vuylsteke (Mark). Bill was grandfather to Amber Robbins, Cody Robbins, Bobby Grofe, Scotty Lewis, Jessica Laws, Joshua Lewis, Gregory Carter Jr., Courtney Carter, Jeremy Carter, Rilah Carter, Audrey Francis, Justin Sanders, Isabella Sanders, Kayla Kasten, Kelsie O’Toole, Keirstin O’Toole, and Ava O’Toole. Bill was a great-grandfather of 22, and an uncle, cousin, and friend to many, including his fellow members of the Teamsters Local 600 and Amvets Post 42.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kutis Funeral Home, located at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri. The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th at 11:00 am at Kutis, followed by a celebration of life at 12:30 pm at Amvets Post 42 in Herculaneum. Bill’s life and legacy will be remembered and celebrated by his loved ones and the community he cherished.
