Joseph Robert Emanuel Sr. passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. While his passing leaves a tremendous void, those who knew Joe can take comfort in imagining the reunion that surely took place when he was welcomed home by his beloved wife, Laverne Bond Emanuel, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.Joe was the loving father of Susan Higgins, Kathy Vogelsang, Joseph Emanuel Jr., Scott Emanuel, and Jeanne Emanuel. He was a cherished father-in-law to David Vogelsang, Jane Emanuel, Edward Reggi, and Steve Jackson, and the late Gary Foley.
He was the proud and devoted grandfather of Sarah Curley (Joe), Katie Higgins, Kayla Haley (Chris), Timothy Vogelsang, Emmy Self (Chip), Clarissa Emanuel, Taylor Jackson, and Melvin Purnell. Nothing brought him greater joy than his family, especially his adored great-grandchildren, Karley Jones, Lyla Haley, Remi Haley, and Henry Self.
Joe was the beloved son of the late William and Gladys Emanuel of Jennings and the dear brother of the late Jimmy, Bill, John, Ruth, Gladys, Nancy, and Mary. He was also a treasured godfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend whose kindness and humor touched countless lives.
A proud patriot, Joe served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Following his military service, he built a successful 46-year career as a furniture and appliance salesman, earning the trust and friendship of generations of customers.
Joe dedicated 19 years of service as a chauffeur for the St. Ann Senior Citizen transportation program, helping neighbors maintain their independence and dignity. Known affectionately by many as the “Unofficial Mayor of St. Ann,” Joe never met a stranger. Whether he was delivering a joke, sharing a story, checking on a friend, or serving as the community’s self-appointed “Donut Concierge,” he had a gift for making people smile and feel welcome.
An avid bowler and golfer, Joe loved spending time, with family and friends, on the lanes or the links. Among his proudest accomplishments were two hole-in-ones, the last coming at the remarkable age of 77 after undergoing two knee replacements—a testament to his determination, resilience, and love of the game. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2951 in Florissant and remained active in his faith and community throughout his life.
Joe will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, unwavering devotion to family, and ability to brighten any room he entered. To many, he was simply the funniest guy around. To those who loved him, he was one of a kind. His legacy of laughter, kindness, service, and love will live on in all who knew him.

I’m always here for you!!!
I have such wonderful memories of living next door to my Emanuels! Mr. E was always working when I was a kid, so I was closer to Mrs. E than he. Once he retired and started driving the Seniors, he had the pleasure of carting my ornery grandmother around town and she just loved him! Not many people could make her laugh, but he did. Once I went home to visit and saw him sitting on the porch, so I stopped by to chat – he called Laverne out and they were so happy to see me; and I them. I’ll always remember his deep voice and whole hearted laugh. I know he is over the moon to be back in the arms of his bride. Side note: I loved the mention of the two holes in one! Great job to his family on taking such wonderful care of him after Mrs. E passed. Love you all!!
Prayers and comfort for the family. May the memories live on 🕊️
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for the Emanuel Family.
