Lorraine “Rainey” Agnes Fahey (nee Boyle) 78 of St. Louis, Missouri, was baptized into the Lord on July 28, 2024.
Rainey was born on September 24, 1945, to the late James and the late Elizabeth “Bets” Boyle; she was raised in a life of music, love, and laughter that she shared with her siblings, the late Kathy (late Tony) Weber, Jim (Sue) Boyle, and Ron (late Jan) Boyle.
Rainey married Robert “Bob” Fahey on November 12, 1964, gaining 6 additional siblings: Margaret (late Charley) Peak, the late Sue and (late Patrick) Butler, Bill (Maureen) Fahey, Ann (late Michael) Connelly, the late Mary Ellen “DeeDee” (Dennis) Piazza, the late Kate (Jim) Daniels, and Lucy Burcke (Alan) Erdman. Bob and Rainey lived and loved every day together until his death in 2021.
Their three children, Julie (Jerry) Kemp, Betsy (late Steve) Pilla, and the late Susie (Dwight) Mazanec, along with several very lucky foster babies, received Rainey’s overwhelming love and nurturing gifts. Grandchildren glorified her life, and she is survived by Abby, Sam, and Anneliese Kemp; Lauren and Mike Pilla; Nicole, Katie, Rebecca, Caroline, and Emily Mazanec.
Her ever-present smile, huge heart, and outgoing personality are hallmarks of her relationships. She never passed up an opportunity to share love and be surrounded by family, friends and live music.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 38 years ago, Rainey strengthened her will and became an advocate for those with disabilities. Rainey lived a life of joy, filled with service. As a young mom, she welcomed foster babies into the Fahey home. Later she was a secretary for St. Louis College of Pharmacy and then worked as the Director of Disability Ministry for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
She finished her career as a spiritual director for Catholic Charities. Her gift for public speaking and passion for sharing her story allowed her to touch the lives of many as she led retreats and motivational speaking events. She lived her entire life focused on the love of all people and the joy in living life to its fullest. She was gentle in nature and spiritually wise. One major highlight of her long and wonderful life was meeting Pope John Paul II when he visited St. Louis in 1999; not sure who was more impressed with whom!
Our hearts are heavy as we say an earthly goodbye to this brand-new Heavenly Angel.

As pastor of Sacred Heart she continually exude the gift of joy, hope and love. Her spirit engaged all of us. She and her husband made a great team and lived the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. When you experienced them you truly experienced the presence of God. I, Fr Rosy, will offer mass for Rainey on Saturday morning as I am giving a Marriage Encounter Experience in St. Peter’s, Mo.
To the children and families I send my love and condolences, yet knowing a great reunion is taking place with her BOB.

Sending love and prayers to Rainey’s family from Evansville. We always so enjoyed our visits from Raine and Bob. As much as I will miss my sweet cousin, it makes me smile to think of them together again. As valiantly as she tried, it felt like nothing was quite right for her without him. I can’t think of anyone with a sweeter spirit than Rainey.
Our love and prayers are sent to Rainey’s family. She lit a up a room with her smile! She was such a dear person to know. Rainey will be missed by so many.
Sending love and prayers from the Hennessy family.
I am so grateful to have gotten to know her, even briefly, as her granddaughter Anneliese’s pastor. She was a delightful woman and I loved talking with her about how we were in the Anneliese fan club. I am so glad she was with us at Glendale Presbyterian a few weeks ago to support Anneliese while she sang a duet. She was a deeply kind woman and her legacy of love lives on in her family.
My sympathy to Rainey’s family.
I went to Bushop DuBourg High School with Rainey.
I knew of Rainey in high school, by got to know her better at the reunions. Being out of town I didn’t see her much but remember her lovely smile and how her family and faith were so important. I was very impressed how involved she was in the Catholic Church.
Just reading what others had to say she brought joy to many people.
I’m so glad I got to see her one last time at our 60th reunion last year.
My dear friend, Betsy. I am so very sorry for the loss of your Mom. I am sending you all my deepest condolences and praying for a peaceful resting for your Mom.
Your friends at Icertis are here for you.

On behalf of the Meyer family, I’d like to extend our deepest condolences to your family. My mom, Marilyn, has been friends with Mrs. Fahey and the “Bunco” group for as long as I can remember. May you find peace in all of the love and memories you’ve shared.
My thoughts and prayers are with our family. Our lives have been changed forever with the loss of Aunt Rainey. When you looked in her eyes, you saw her soul rejoicing and enjoying everyone in her sight. She loved like no other. You could feel her heart with every word she spoke, with every smile and every laugh. She loved our Lord and served him daily. She was an example of Blessed and was a Blessing. Our hearts are full with glee that she is rejoicing in His presence and celebrating with her family and friends in Heaven. I love you and miss you so much, Aunt Rainey, and I am grateful to have benefitted from your love and grace. Love, Gigi D.
When we heard the news of Rainey’s passing we were greatly saddened. Rainey blessed us with her stories, lectures, lunches at Kenrick Pastoral center for many years and I Elaine had the pleasure of having Bob as my boss when we were in the Archives together. What a great loss to all who knew Rainey at the Pastoranl Center for so many years. Bob Snyder and wife Elaine are very saddened to hear of the news of Rainey’s passing. We will continue to pray for all her family and the wonderful grandchildren who will miss her more than anyone will know. God and all of Heaven are very lucky to have Rainey as a new guest. May you all find peace knowing Rainey is with all of you in Heaven.
I was very saddened to read of Lorraine’s passing. She was always a wonderful person, full of joy and laughter. I knew her in high school. A very sweet and kind person. The world is a sadder place today without her loving presence. She will be missed by all who knew her. I know today she is sharing in the love of God, taking her seat in the kingdom of God.
