Carola Gloyd

In Loving Memory

Gloyd, Carola C.

June 1, 1972 - January 31, 2024

June 1, 1972 – January 31, 2024

Carola Carin Gloyd, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend was taken from us too soon on January 31, 2024 after a life well lived. She was born on June 1, 1972 to Marilyn and Wolfgang Webern. Carola is survived by her husband of 28 years, Chester Gloyd; sons Carter Gloyd and Chandler Gloyd (Cierra); an unborn grandson on the way; sister Kaethe Grabenhofer (Tim); and countless beloved friends and family members.

Carola was full of passion, energy and style and brought those qualities to her family, friends and the community throughout her life. While most of her time was spent organizing, guiding and supporting her family, she had many additional passions that included support for the Kirkwood PTO, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and fighting cancer through her non-profit Warriors Against Melanoma.

After moving to St Louis with her family as a child, Carola made many lifelong friends at Lutheran North high school and Luther College in Decorah Iowa. Carola cared deeply for the large group of friends that she connected with at school and in the community, and gave those many beloved friends and family members what they required emotionally when they needed it most.

Visitation will be held at 4-8 pm, Friday, February 9, 2024, at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd, St Louis. Funeral will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 1 Selma Ave, Webster Groves.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her memorial to the Melanoma Research Foundation https://donate.melanoma.org/site/Donation2?df_id=3022&mfc_pref=T&3022.donation=form1

  3. Carola was a darling neighbor & authentic individual. She was so kind when my husband was ill; bringing over bottles of açaí juice. Was thrilled to visit with her recently. I am so very sorry for Chester and all family.

  4. I met Carola in 2017 in Washington, D.C. at the Melanoma Research Advocacy conference. It was such a pleasure to spend time with her and experience her dedication and I appreciated. Her first-hand knowledge as my son, Tim was fighting melanoma at the time. She was reassuring to me and very compassionate and understanding what we were going through as a family. My friend, Debbie and I spent the day on Capitol Hill with Carola as we visited the representatives and advocated for funding. My son lost his battle with melanoma in 2020 at the age of 45. I will continue to remember Carola and the difference she made in that brief period of time. My heartfelt sympathy to all that loved her, especially her dear family.

  7. There are no words. I just reached out to walk with Carola and she told me she was fighting cancer again.and I have been praying ever since. Carola and I hung together on the Members Board at MOBOT and had the occasional spirited debate on Nextdoor. I miss her already. Our family sends hugs and prayers to all the many who loved her.

  13. There will never be another you, sweet girl. Your impact in this world was huge. You were meant to do great things, and you did. The hole you leave is immense, and we will always keenly feel your absence. I wish I had told you more how much I looked up to you, how much I learned from you, and how very much I loved you. I take comfort in knowing that your dad and Grandma Olga were there to welcome you with open arms. What a glorious reunion that must have been. Until we meet again, on the other side of the stars…somewhere, over the rainbow.

She was such an extraordinary woman and I truly admired her fearlessness and passion for whatever she did. In New Orleans we celebrate “life”, not death so I will celebrate her incredible life and the impact she had on so many people she touched!. Sending lots of ❤️

  18. Such a young child of God has been brought into the glorious life He has for all of the faithful. While you have the joys of knowing she is in paradise it does not diminish the heartbreak and pain you are feeling. Chester you are a good person and I am certain Carola will be with you and in your heart until you meet again in heaven.

  19. I just heard the sad news from Carola’s sister, Kaethe. I was friends with their mother, and I remember both little girls as babies, and then as children growing up. They grew up to be fine ladies, both kind and gentle (and determined) souls that followed their dreams. I remember Carola as always energetic and loving life. Love and prayers to all her family and to all who knew and loved her.

  20. Chester, Carter and Chandler, my heart is breaking at the news of the loss of your sweet wife/mother. Carola and I met at Robinson and spent many hours together working on PTO committees, and enjoying social events with the great group of moms that quickly became friends. Carola always had a way of including everyone and a gift for bringing people together. I will fondly remember all the fun movie night and flag football games with the boys and happy hours and get together with the ladies. I know I don’t have to tell you all how special she was to so many. She was definitely a strong warrior, and her legacy will live on.
Heartfelt condolences to all of you. May you find peace and comfort in the memories of her sweet smile, beautiful soul and kind heart. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. ❤️ The Lunds- Kristen, Cameron, Kelsey and Corey
