Jeffrey Lyle Hansen, 64, passed away peacefully at home on after a recent diagnosis of colon cancer, Sunday, August 25, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born in Bremerton, Washington, Jeff was the third of four children. He cherished his childhood in Poulsbo, Washington on the Hood Canal, attending North Kitsap High School and graduating in 1978. Jeff and his siblings fully embraced the outdoor adventures that the region offered. He became an avid skier, golfer, and boater, with his childhood home providing a picturesque backdrop of the canal and beach—a place he always held dear.
In the early 1980s, Jeff moved to New York City, where he worked as a flight attendant and met his future wife, Stephanie. They married in 1987, later settling in St. Louis, and together they raised four wonderful children.
Jeff’s love for golf turned into a fulfilling career. He served as an assistant pro and teaching pro at several golf clubs in the St. Louis area, including Cherry Hills Country Club and Forest Hills Country Club. However, he found his true passion as a teaching pro at Sunset Lakes Golf Course.
In the early 2000s, Jeff transitioned to a career in Commercial Real Estate, a field in which he thrived for many years. His work often took him around the world, and Stephanie or one of their children would frequently join him on these adventures.
Jeff wore many hats throughout his life: husband, father, Papa Bear, brother, son, friend, coach, dog dad, comedian, life of the party, frequent flyer, golf instructor, and a favorite addition to any golfing foursome. He took great joy in coaching his children in any sport they chose, even ones he had never played himself. When his kids entered high school sports, he became their biggest fan. In recent years, he embraced his most cherished role as Papa Bear to his three granddaughters: Sophie Hansen, Olivia Schoelch, and Ellie Schoelch.
Jeff’s deepest affection was for his beloved “hunny,” Stephanie. Their careers provided them with opportunities to explore the world together, constantly seeking their next adventure. Jeff’s humor touched many, with Stephanie always being his greatest cheerleader and motivator. Despite life’s challenges, Jeff strived to bring joy and laughter to those around him. His storytelling and sense of humor will be fondly remembered.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Sheldon, and her husband, Edward. Father-in-law, Larry Prueitt, stepmother Karen Hansen and brother-in-law Jim Good.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie (Prueitt), his children Lyle, Curtis, Rachel Schoelch (Matthew), and Sarah Hansen, his father Lyle Hansen, his brother Jim (Joni) Hansen, and sisters Wanda Good and Karen (Chris) Stauffer. Treasured son-in-law to Rose Prueitt, brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many
Family and friends are encouraged to support Stephanie and their family at a Visitation at Kutis Funeral Home – Affton at 10151Gravois Rd, St Louis MO 63123 on Thursday August 29th from 4 – 8pm and a celebration of life at Mass on Friday August 30th 10:00am @ Our Lady of Providence at 8866 Pardee Rd.

Really sorry to hear about this. My best friend lived in the house directly next door to the Hansen house, and we spent a lot of time playing football, etc. in the Hansen yard. Jeff was a few years older than me, but he was always nice to the younger guys in the neighborhood. My condolences to the entire family.
We are deeply saddened to hear about your loss. Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Please know that your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find comfort in cherished memories and strength in the support of loved ones. Jeff was a stellar person, and can only be proud of the family he’s built and the life he’s cultivated.
With warmth and deepest sympathy,
The Dieye Family
