Robert Frank Hogrebe, (Bob) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6 surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on October 20, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the oldest son of Frank and Hertha (Neumann) Hogrebe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older sisters; Marlowe (Frank) Heitland, Ruth (John) Holacher, Dawn Hogrebe, and two younger brothers; Warren (Larue) Hogrebe and Herb (Maryanne) Hogrebe. He is survived by his younger brother; Ed (Joan) Hogrebe.
Bob graduated from Ranken Technical School in 1940.
On March 6, 1943 Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country bravely, earning combat action medals for participation in battle at the Pacific Islands of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. His division also received the Presidential Unit Citation for their victory at Tarawa Island. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on February 11, 1947.
After the war Bob returned to St. Louis. He met Zona (Buettner) while working as a tool and die maker at White-Rogers Co. They were married on June 2, 1951, Zona survives.
Bob and Zona were blessed with 4 children; their first child, Susan Hogrebe, was born in 1954 and died shortly after birth. Their surviving children are; Laurie (George) Reinheimer, Terri (Jim) Drazen and Ron (Carrie) Hogrebe. Bob was also blessed with 7 grandchildren; Chris (Christi) Reinheimer, Stephanie Reinheimer, Mike Drazen, Tim (Vanessa) Drazen, Diana (Ryan) Drazen-Burke, Madelyn Hogrebe, Rebecca Hogrebe, and 5 great grandchildren; Rilynn and Magnolia Burke, Tori Drazen, Molly Meckfessel and Amelia Reinheimer.
Bob continued to work as a tool and die maker until his retirement. He was known to his family as “the guy who could fix anything”. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards. He was devoted to his family, as well as his church, and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd.
Visitation will also be held Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:30 am at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 765 Lemay Ferry Rd.
Service to follow morning visitation on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:30 am at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery following the service.
