It is with profound sadness that the family of Kelly Margaret (nee McLean) Hoppe, 36, announce her peaceful passing on Thursday October 24, 2024. Kelly had been under the care of hospice at BJC Medical Center following a very courageous battle with brain cancer.
She is survived by her adoring, loving husband of 10 years, Shaun Hoppe; cherished mother of Hallie Ann, Julia Grace and Madelyn Rae;
Loving daughter of Kenneth and Julia (nee Boll) McLean; dear sister of beloved brother Alexander McLean; sweet granddaughter of Ruth McLean; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Stephanie Hoppe; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jason and Ginny (nee Hoppe) Pahl; nephew Levi and niece Abigail Pahl; treasured family friends, the Stanton’s; along with a loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins that meant the world to her.
Kelly was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. She attended St. Francis of Assisi for grade school and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2006. Many of her dearest friends today attended these schools which is a testament as to how important relationships and friendships were to Kelly. She completed her BSN, RN degree at the University of Columbia, MO with the highest of honors, Summa Cum Laude.
Upon graduating, Kelly accepted a position in the Pediatric ICU at BJC Children’s Hospital helping those children with the greatest of needs.
While working, Kelly pursued her degree as a nurse practitioner at Maryville University, again graduating with honors. As a family nurse practitioner (FNP), Kelly worked for CVS in a clinic environment but recognized her place was back in the pediatric world. Kelly ended her honorable profession as a healthcare provider at BJC Children’s Hospital in the Cardiac/Pulmonary transplant unit, a position fulfilling her passion to help kids in need of the utmost of healthcare.
Kelly lived her life with spirit, possessing an extreme love for life, family and friends, placing great value on all of her relationships. She adored her children and husband, cherishing every minute she spent with them. Kelly, beautiful inside and out, was genuine, selfless and had a great sense of humor. She embraced everyone she met, never knowing a stranger and was an inspiration to all. Kelly is a true hero and example of how to live life to its fullest.
She is our angel and will be forever missed, but will live in the hearts of her loved ones as she guides and protects us.
A Memorial Mass in her honor will be held on Friday, November 15th at 4:30pm at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, 4900 Ringer Road, St. Louis, MO 63129. Kelly and I not only went to Mizzou Nursing School together, but after we both got our Nurse Practitioner degrees, I had the honor of working with Kelly at CVS Minute Clinic. She was an amazing person, NP, and friend. She was truly one of my favorite people in nursing school. She will be so deeply missed.
It breaks my heart to hear of Kelly’s passing. She was a lifeline to me and my family when we spent several months post transplant with our daughter at SLCH. She had such a huge heart and you just knew she cared about you. I also know how much she loved her dear family. When she talked about her husband and kids her whole face would just light up. I can’t even imagine the incredible hole this leaves for you all.. I will be praying for peace, comfort and healing over time, She will never be forgotten.
Jules and family. You all have been in our continued prayers for months now. We do not know what you all are going through but our God in Heaven does. Our prayers are that God will give you strength to get through this very difficult time. May you all see Kelly’s reflection and spirit in her children in the coming days. There will be many cries and sadness but also great memories and laughter. Hold on to God!
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. This is His promise you have through faith.
God is very close to you all, continue to lean on him.
I love you Jules.

I am sending deep sympathy to everyone that knew Kelly. She was one of my sister’s best friends. I will always remember her coming over to play and swim at our house as a little girl. Watching her grow up and have children was special. She was a terrific mother to her children and a terrific wife to her husband. She was a terrific friend to everyone. Her legacy will live on in all that knew her and was grateful to share moments with her. She will truly never be forgotten. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
I worked with Kelly when we were new nurses at St Louis Children’s hospital in the PICU. That was more than 12 years ago but seeing this news is devastating. My condolences go to
Her beautiful family. My memories of her were always of her smiling and just being an overall lovely, kind soul.
May she be with Angels above
Kelly was one of my original Nurse Practioners at CVS Ballwin. I always enjoyed talking with her and considered her one of my friends. My condolences go out to her family. She truly was a treasure!
Her friendly smile in the picture transports me back to her visits accompanied by her lovely girls and brings us sorrow and tears. Kelly was an extraordinary nurse, wonderful daughter, loving spouse and mother, precious to family and friends. When facing devastating news, she bravely voiced to her family her desire to help others through science. She is a heroine!
Heroes are also Julie, Ken and Shaun, her entire family, friends and colleagues who so stoically, courageously endured months of unspeakable sadness.
We miss you, beautiful Kelly. You will live forever in our hearts.
Kelly was a tremendous mother to those beautiful girls . Her life has taught me to pause . Have patience and listen .
She was wonderfully supported by her amazing mother , father , and husband . Whom never left her side . Prayers to all of you everyday .
I am so sorry to hear of Kelly’s passing. My little brother, Andy, played soccer with Alex in elementary. Kelly was always so sweet when she was there watching games. I always remember her with a smile. Sending prayers of love and comfort to the McLean and Hoppe family.
Mr and Mrs McLean and Alex I’m so sorry for your loss Kelly was always so nice. My deepest sympathy to your family during this time. Sending lots of prayers.
I worked with Kelly on the transplant team at SLCH. She was an incredibly smart and dedicated nurse practitioner. She cared about her patients and their families deeply. She was always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. Beyond work she was an amazing friend. We all joked about our cloffice (closet/office) that the lung txp girls spent many hours in. She supported and encouraged me through my first pregnancy and first year as a mom. She was a proud mother and wife and shared stories about her girls and husband daily. I feel so lucky and blessed to have known her. My heart and prayers are with Shaun, her girls, and the rest of the family. Rest easy my friend💞
Ken and Julie I have no words to speak about your great loss of Kelly. We known how much she meant to you.
