Josephine was devoted to her faith, her family, and her many friends.  She was a parishioner at both Epiphany of Our Lord and St. Raphael Archangel Catholic Churches.  She was a compassionate and hardworking nurse for 40 years at SSM St. Mary’s and Deaconess Hospitals.  She supported and was a dedicated volunteer for many, many charities during her life.  Josephine loved sharing her cooking, sewing, and crafting with her family and friends.

  1. Josie was one of the dearest and kindest women I knew in St. Louis. She was a devoted and very much loved friend of my late mother, Jennie, and my brother, Paul. I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of this extraordinary woman, who was larger than life. May she rest in His Magnificent and Glorious Presence and may the Peace of the Infant Christ be with your family during this holy season and all the days to come.

  7. “Saint Josephine” as she was lovingly referred to by her fellow nurses at her retirement party was very much respected by all who worked with her at St. Mary’s hospital. I worked with her on the floors as a medical student and GI fellow and later in the endoscopy department as a staff physician. She was a model to many and extremely respected and well. We trusted her to babysit our children. God rest her soul! (Although rest was a foreign concept to Jo when I knew her) Condolences to her family.

  15. I participated in a peer ministry group with Jo at St. Raphael about 15 years ago. I was blessed to come to know her though our ages were so far apart. She was one of the kindest, most sincerely caring women I’ve ever known. “Saint Josephine” is truly an appropriate nickname for her. Her light and spirit touched all who knew her.

  17. I’m very sorry to hear of Mrs. Godfrey’s passing. She was like a second mother to me growing up. Always very inspirational and tried her darndest to keep us on the straight and narrow. I can’t ever forget all the days at Johnson Shutins and hanging around at her house. She was a close friend to my mom & dad as well. My sincere condolences.
