Leroy Frank “Lee” Koenig, 65, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with his family by his side. He always joked he was the healthiest cancer patient he knew. In the end, the cancer didn’t take him but other, unrelated complications got the best of him.
Lee was born on March 25, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Lawrence and Greta Koenig.
He and his beloved wife, Pamela Lynn Koenig, would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this December. Together, they dreamed of traveling and making many more memories in the years ahead. Together they raised two children, Stanton Lee Koenig and Rylee Rae Koenig (fiancé Jake Drayton). He was also the proud and devoted dad to his beloved fur babies, Stella and Willow, and adored his four grand-kitties: Lou, Mo, Pip, and Ozzy.
Lee was the youngest of five siblings. He is survived by his sisters, Lorraine Koenig and Linda (Joseph) Neiner; his brother, Leonard Koenig; and his sister-in-law, Sandy Koenig, wife of his late brother Larry Koenig. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Lee played rugby for many years with the St. Louis Bombers Rugby Club. After retiring from the sport, he found joy in camping, golfing, and traveling with his family and friends. Whether he was outdoors, cheering on his favorite teams, or spending time with those he loved most, Lee lived life with a generous heart and a great sense of humor.
Christmas was, without question, Lee’s favorite time of year. He loved everything about the season—the lights, the music, the traditions, and especially watching Elf, which had become a family favorite because of him. Every year he looked forward to putting up Christmas lights, turning the house into something special. Seeing his excitement and hearing him laugh during the holidays is a memory his family will always treasure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Greta Koenig; his brother, Larry Koenig. And waiting for him in heaven was the best dog ever, Coco with the biggest stick she could find!
Lee will be remembered for his strength, resilience, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 3:00pm-8:00pm.
