Mike Koenig

In Loving Memory

Koenig, Michael John

March 20, 1963 - October 17, 2024

Michael John Koenig, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was the dear husband of Nancy Koenig (née Rogers) and devoted father to Matthew Koenig and Sarah Koenig. Mike was the firstborn son of John Koenig and Anita Koenig (née Chmelir) and the beloved brother of Kurt Koenig, Kevin Koenig, Mark Koenig, and Todd Koenig. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Heather Koenig (née Thompson), Anne Koenig (née Beuckman), Heather Koenig (née Kiely), Donald Rogers, and Jan Schaljo, and a cherished uncle to Brianna, Nathan, Connor, Drew, Jake, Parker, Carson, and Cassidy.

Mike was born on March 20, 1963, in St. Louis, MO. As a child, he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his neighbors and brothers. He graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1981 and was known for his booming voice and compassionate demeanor. Mike always went out of his way to ensure everyone felt welcome at family gatherings, and he truly believed in “the more, the merrier” when planning any celebration.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially The Huzzah House. Mike spent many winters deer hunting and was a key member of the February Freezeout. He instilled an appreciation for nature in his children and spent countless hours outdoors, using its beauty as a way to connect with God. A lifelong Catholic, Mike spent several years visiting local parks daily to sit on a bench and pray. He prayed twice a day for a long list of people in his life, offering extra prayers for those he knew were struggling.

Mike will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is now at peace with God, his father John, his uncles Art and Harry, and the family members and friends who passed before him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kutis Affton (10151 Gravois Rd, 63123). A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church (9740 Sappington Rd, 63128). Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery (6901 MacKenzie Rd, 63123).
