Joan Lee Llewellyn (née Doherty), aged 87, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, in Saint Louis, Missouri, the same city where she was born on July 26, 1937. Known affectionately as Joan Lee, she leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, evident in the extensive family that survives her.
Joan Lee Doherty married Henry (Boots) Llewellyn on September 1, 1956. Throughout their almost 68 years of marriage, they seemed to be always referred to as one – “Boots and Joan Lee”. Even though Boots was in the Army in their early years of marriage, they had 6 active children, 5 boys and 1 girl, in 9 years. Joan Lee started her volunteer work caring for newborns in the hospital. She continued doing charity work through a philanthropic charity, Phi Tau Omega, along with attending daily mass – rain, snow or shine, finding time to be on the church cleaning crew for Our Lady of Sorrows and spending countless hours helping the parish.
Joan Lee was an angel among us. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, including prayer cards, lighting candles, celebrating birth dates and death dates, devotions for anyone that crossed her or her family’s path, and of course, her “sessions”. Along with having a steadfast cheerleader, her children can attribute who they are today from mom collecting rent as soon as they had an income, kicking them out of the house on summer days, and participating in long Catholic holiday rituals.
Joan Lee is survived by her beloved husband, Henry “Boots” Llewellyn, along with their sons Joseph (widower of Pamela Hill), Michael (Kim Lee), Nicholas (widower of Marjorie Morose), Matthew (Michelle Fogerty), and Thomas (Maureen Lee). Joan was a cherished grandmother to Kyle (April), Nicole (Ken) Nill, Brian, Andrea, Nicholas II, Ana, Matthew (Lindsay), Michael (Cori), Mary Beth, Abby, and Katie Llewellyn, and a proud great-grandmother.
She is now enjoying the session she has been missing since she lost her best friend and daughter Dot, and her eight siblings. Joan Lee was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Llewellyn, and several members of the Doherty family, including her parents, Nicholas Aloysius and Dorothy Lee Doherty (née McFatridge), her brothers John, Vincent, Nicholas, Matthew, Thomas, Arthur, and her sisters Dorothy “Baby Sis” Madden and Mary Ann Donnelly
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Joan Lee’s memory and the profound impact she had on those around her. Her spirit, marked by resilience and warmth, will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.

The memories growing up on Milentz are forever etched in our minds. Your mom sitting on the front porch with Dot, or your uncle, Calling you boys in on Good Fridays, right in the middle of a hotly contested basketball game in the alley 🙂
She was like a second mother to us across the street and she will forever be missed Please pass on our condolences to your dad
The Long Family sends condolences to your Family. You will all be in our prayers.

My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved your mother. Prayers for peace and strength for you all.
Mike Glore is right, Milentz was a great place and the Llewellyns were a massive part of it. I remember walking in the back door and always seeing Mrs. Llewellyn in the kitchen and her laugh would erupt and rock the room. Absolutely lovely lady. My sincere condolences and prayers to the entire family.
