Mayer, Joan Carolyn

(nee Tolman) peacefully passed away on May 28, 2022, at the age of 84, at Friendship Village Skilled Nursing in Sunset Hills, MO after a heroic battle with Multiple System Atrophy.

wife of Robert H. Mayer for 63 years. Beloved mother to Rob, Bill and Karen (Dennis) Sandstedt; beloved grandmother to Ellie, Rob Jr., Will, Andy, Kaitlin, John and Lindsay; dear sister of the late Lexie McCourt (nee Tolman); dear aunt and cousin and devoted friend to many.

Daughter of the late Carl and Irene (nee Robertson) Tolman, Joan was born in University City on Christmas Day, 1937.  Although Joan was an educator, graduating from Washington University, the accomplishment dearest to her was as a devoted mother and grandmother.  Time spent with family and friends was precious to Joan.  Joan was actively involved with philanthropic organizations supporting education and women throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Friendship Village at Sunset Hills, 12563 Village Circle Dr., St. Louis, MO 63127 on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.  Following the service, there will be a committal at St. Lucas United Church of Christ followed by a luncheon at 12:30 served in the ballroom at Friendship Village at Sunset Hills.  Family encourages all to attend the luncheon to share memories of good times spent with Joan over her life.
