McArthy, Brooks Carson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was born on February 26, 1934 to the late Carson and Viva McArthy. Beloved husband of Janis for 68 years. Loving father of Michelle (Craig) Forthaus, Nannette McArthy, the late Brooks (Shari) McArthy, Darren McArthy, Christy McArthy, Kelly (Jay) Lavick, and Collette Capellupo. Cherished grandfather to Kyle (Katelyn) Forthaus, Tyler (Erica) Forthaus, Cori (Ryan) Parker, Clayton (Tina) Clark, Nicholas (Darci) Clark, Anthony (Jennifer) Clark, Eric (Deanna) Clark, Derrick (Stephanie) Clark, Bettina (Kenny) Woolsey, Amanda (Matthew) Foust, Brooks J. (Amy) McArthy, Benjamin (Kayla) McArthy, Jessica (Brett) Nickless, Joshua Lavick, Rachel Lavick, Elli (Jonathan) Flowers, Caroline Capellupo, and Jacob Capellupo. Treasured great-grandfather to 33. Our dear brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.
Brooks met the love of his life, Janis, when his friend and her cousin, Herb, set them up on a blind date; that was August 15, 1951. Sharing a love for dance, their first date was dancing on the Admiral. They moved in rhythm with each other both on the dancefloor and throughout their lives. Brooks’ dreams and goals became her aspirations too. They were adored partners to the end, supporting and loving each other more every day. Along with dancing, Brooks and Jan shared a love of family, golf, tennis and traveling. Brooks proudly boasted and joked to the nursing staff saying, “She’s my first wife.” They certainly had a beautiful and happy union, filled with fond memories and laughter over their 72+ years together.
Brooks was a hard-working entrepreneur with a knack for turning his dreams into reality. After serving in the Army as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Brooks became a successful Real Estate Developer in St. Louis. He started by building a duplex in Mascoutah, Illinois. Soon after, he built more duplexes in Arnold, Missouri, and eventually designed and developed two apartment complexes in St. Louis County. His most exciting development came in his “retirement years” when he would combine his love of golf and his creative entrepreneurial spirit to design and develop Deer Creek Golf Club in House Springs, Missouri. “I enjoy golf and I thought, Why not?”
Brooks was a man of conviction and encouraged his children to be strong and independent. He enjoyed being playful with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them the catch a falling dollar trick, among other games. The littles could always steal his heart. He was a charitable man, privately giving to both organized charity and individuals he saw needing a little extra help. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, and will remain forever in our hearts.
