In Loving Memory

McDonough, Mary Delia

November 3, 1961 - March 25, 2025

Mary Delia McDonough died on March 25, 2025, in Lindenhurst, Illinois.

Dear sister of Judy McDonough, Kathy (Steve) Aevermann, Ellie (Dan) Thomas, Patty (Christian) Muehleisen and Thomas Edward McDonough, infant brother who preceded her in death; beloved daughter of the late John (Jack) and Dolores McDonough, and proud aunt of Gabe Thomas, Jamie Thomas Dobos and George Thomas. Born in St. Louis, MO in 1961, Mary attended St. Catherine Laboure School and Cor Jesu Academy. She graduated from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and also completed a Master of Divinity from Aquinas Institute of Theology. Mary used her tremendous gifts of compassion and faith throughout her career, serving in communications at the Archdiocese of Chicago, as a hospice chaplain with SSM Health in St. Louis, and most recently at The Village at Victory Lakes, a senior living Franciscan community where she served as Director of Pastoral Care for 5 years.

She will be deeply missed by her strong, loving network of cousins and relatives, friends, co-workers, and her extensive faith community.

Following a Funeral Mass in Chicago on April 2, visitation will take place at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois, on Friday, April 4 from 9-11am, with a short funeral service and the Rosary at 11am. Burial will take place immediately after at Resurrection Cemetery.

  1. Mary my dear friend. you were one in a million. I want to cry when I think I will never see your beautiful face or listen to your kind words. The truth is I can only smile when I think of you with that smile & huge heart. I bet there was quite a reception for you in heaven from all the people who lived at the community. You will be missed forever, until we meet again.

  2. I am lost without my galpal. She and I were planning a goofy 1988 Camper trip this summer — I have so many incredible memories of travels with my dear friend— Sedona, Charleston, Pittsburgh, Savannah, Hilton Head, Toledo (!), Myrtle Beach, and tons more …. She was my up for (almost) anything buddy and I enjoyed every minute of being with her. Mary who will tell me what color to wear? What skin care product to use ? …Who will criticize an ill fitting bra? Who will give me that “looking into space look” with a zingy retort? These my dear dear friend are losses… In all seriousness I was so blessed to know this faith filled, graceful, humble, talented woman. I was lucky to meet her and be tremendously helped by her great counsel when I worked at the archdiocese way back in the 90’s. AND I was so blessed to call her a friend since then!! I spoke with her days ago regarding family members who attended Franciscan University, and my nephew who was recently ordained.
WELL DONE GOOD and FAITHFUL SERVANT – Enjoy the treasure of His company!

What a great person to have as a cousin. I’m sure she is happy now to be together with her mom and dad and baby brother. Sleep well Mary until we meet again.
