CMSgt. Vincent R. Meyer, age 66, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from a valiant battle of cancer. He was a proud retired Air Force recruiter of 28 years and took pride in helping many young people, doctors, and nurses to find their direction for their lives. He was awarded ‘Top Recruiter’ in the nation in 1992 and received high awards, for the rest of his active duty years, until he retired in 2011.
Vincent was born on January 22, 1958, in St. Louis, MO, to his parents Judy and Elmer Hartzell. He joined the Air Force as a young adult and being married for only two years, to his childhood sweetheart, he and his wife were off to his first assignment and stationed at Eielson A.F.B. in Alaska. He immediately fell in love with the state, so much so, that when he had a chance to do another tour there, he jumped.
When he wasn’t busy working, he enjoyed playing softball, even playing on the Air Force team, joining a pool team and dart league. He was also an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. There were many hunting trips made to Alaska with his three sons and best friends.
Vince is predeceased by his parents Judy and Elmer Hartzell, his brother William “Bill” Hartzell, nephews and grandparents. He is survived by his wife Karen Meyer (nee Moore) of 42 years, his three sons Vince Jr., Dan, and Andy and by his daughter Katelyn, three sisters, and other loving family members.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Vince Meyer and I go way back. My boyfriend at the time, Glen, and Karen and Vince would double date.. We would catch a hot movie playing at the time like Smokey and the Bandit or Saturday Night Fever followed by cruising along South Lindbergh in Vince’s Challenger and Glen’s Trans Am. . Vince was deeply in love with Karen. I was even fortunate enough to attend their wedding. We recently reconnected briefly, but unfortunately, we did not meet up. Karen, I am so so sorry for your loss. You guys had a great life together and be thankful for the years you had. May Vince rest in peace, forever, and ever. Now Glen and Vince can talk cars again like in the good old days.
I am so saddened with this news. Karen, if you’d like some company, I would be glad to come visit you. I texted you shortly after the funeral but didn’t receive a response. I am thinking of you. Hugs and much love to you. – Jodie.
