Nancy Bitter

In Loving Memory

Bitter, Nancy Mary Ann

May 2, 1946 - March 29, 2026

Nancy Mary Ann Bitter, 79, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Mercy South Hospital.  Services for Nancy will be held at 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 8 at Mary Queen and Mother on 7601 Watson Road.  Visitation will occur one hour prior to the service.  Father Robertson will offer the Mass with burial at Calvary Cemetery where Nancy will be laid to rest next to her parents.

Nancy was born on May 2, 1946 in St. Louis and was the daughter of Herman and Dorothy Bitter.  Nancy grew up in the St. Louis area, near Baden, and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel elementary school and graduated from Laboure High School. She worked at Service Blue Print Company, Barnes Hospital in Accounts and Southern Commercial Bank in Accounts Payable and Administration.  Nancy was a devoted daughter and shared her adult life caring for her mother until her mother’s passing.

Flowers and gardening were favorite hobbies along with spoiling her pet dogs over the years.  Scrappy, Tootsie, and Grace, which were almost like her children.  She truly loved every dog she owned and they loved her back.

Nancy sold her home and moved into Our Lady of Life about eight years ago.   Unfortunately, she couldn’t bring a pet with her, but instead, she focused on building a  family of friends at OLOL.  Nancy was well known for her simple, strong faith and it was evident that she lived it from the many unsolicited comments her family received from the residents at OLOL.  Her infectious smile and sense of humor endeared her to so many people.  She took it upon herself to welcome all the newcomers and served on committees within the facility to help with activities and to suggest new things for the residence.  Nancy’s favorite pastimes were playing cards and Bingo.  However, some of her best days were spent visiting with friends while rocking on the porch.

Nancy is survived by a nephew, David Richter (Melanie ) of Mexico, Missouri and niece, Ann Foster (nee Richter) of Barnhart, MO; great nieces and nephew (Ann’s children) Becky (Roger) Cummings and Laura Foster, (David and Melanie’s children) Kate (John) Shaw and  Steven Richter; and  great-great nieces and nephews Miriam (Becky), Sophia (Laura), Pierce (Becky) , Bradley (Becky) and  Jake, Cody and Brady (Kate).

Nancy loved the Lord, her family and friends.  She enjoyed celebrating birthdays and special holidays at Ann’s house as well as participating in all the events at Our Lady of Life.  She will always be remembered for her giving heart and her strong faith.

Condolences

  1. Nancy was a kind, familiar face at Our Lady of LIfe. My Dad (Steve) and I always enjoyed seeing her when we’d visit my grandma. Rest peacefully.

  3. Nancy quickly became a good friend after I moved to OLOL a year ago. We played cards together once a week. I will cherish the beautiful St. Benedict cross she gave me, along with a hug, at a time when I was feeling overwhelmed. RIP Nancy
