In Loving Memory

Pozzo, Martin L.

September 28, 1949 - February 12, 2024

Pozzo, Martin L. Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Monday, February 12, 2024 at the age of 74. Beloved Father of Anthony (Joan) Pozzo, Kimberly (Todd) Ondr, and Scott (Amanda) Pozzo. Cherished Gramps of Christian and Isabella Ondr; Evan, Emily, Grace, Maggie, Sophia, and Zach Pozzo; and Alexander and Samuel Pozzo. Dear son of the late Perina and Emil Pozzo, Sr. Dear brother of Emil (Diana) Pozzo, Linda (Roger) Behrens, Sue (Dominic) Puleo, and Chuck (Karen) Pozzo, survived by his former wife Kathleen Pozzo and former partner Sandra Barger.

Marty was born and raised in St. Louis.  Marty proudly served his country through his membership in the Missouri Air National Guard and as a Reservist of the United States Air Force for six years. Despite a stroke at age 29, Marty’s amazing strength, determination and perseverance allowed him to have a long career as a lithographer specializing in type setting & printing. After retirement, Marty volunteered as a driver for the residents of The Hill, as well as serving on the neighborhood watch group.

Marty had an amazing zest for life, as was evidenced by his always present smile. His passions included making people laugh through his story telling and impromptu trivia questions.  He loved and was proud of his Italian heritage and his family. He had many close friends whom he cherished. His very favorite thing to do was to cook and eat good food. Marty didn’t just simply cook and bake; he put his heart into making meals that made others happy.  He showed his love for others through the food he prepared, and it brought joy to everyone who tasted it.  Marty is loved by many and will be missed terribly.

Services: Visitation for one hour at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 5130 Wilson Ave., 63110, on Friday, February 23, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00am also at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Friday, February 23. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Affton, MO to follow the funeral mass.  There will be a luncheon for friends and family immediately following burial services. 2. We were so sad to hear about Marty’s passing. We have so many fond memories with him and the Gentile gatherings, I told my aunt Sandy that he is baking the best focaccia in heaven and enjoying spreading his love and smile to all. He was very special to my family and we are sending prayers to his extended family during this difficult time, may God bless you and watch over you.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Some of my first memories were of him and my dad together at our house on Herford in the city. Every dinner I had with my dad when I came home from the Navy included him.
He always had somthing new he had made and wanted me to try. I will miss him.

  8. I remember when I was a preteen and staying overnight at Uncle Marty and Aunt Kathys. Uncle Marty was cooking dinner and making pasta but he didn’t use spaghetti sauce. It was butter and garlic and Parmesan and it blew me away. I had never had pasta like that before. Bless you Uncle Marty.

  11. I just became aware of this great loss . Marty was a great guy and a special friend. He cared so deeply about all he loved, family and friends. Marty had a way of encouraging others and lifting them up. His laughter could light up a room. My heart hurts tonight knowing I will not hear that laughter again. Strong, courageous, caring, loving, talented and funny. You are finally whole again with no more physical challenges. I will miss you terribly. Rest well my friend
