Left to be with God Monday, April 22, 2024 at the age of 86. For 62 years she was the devoted wife of the late Wayne Schaetzel. She was the loving mother of Terri (Dean) Sullivan, the late Stephen Schaetzel, and Mark (Liz) Schaetzel. Marlene was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Cheryl (Rob) Mueller, Julie (Chance) Albertson, Stevi Schaetzel, Mo (Michael) Skelton, and Spencer Schaetzel; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick Mueller, Mallory Mueller, Elliana Albertson, and Sophia Albertson. She lovingly assigned each child, grandchild, and great grandchild “Angel Numbers” by their birth order and prayed for them all constantly. She was very invested in each of their lives and kept in the know with all their achievements, friends, and experiences.
Marlene proudly worked as a teacher and administrator at the Affton School District. She loved activities like bridge and shuffle board and was a very active member of the Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church parish.
Marlene lived her Catholic faith with much joy and gratitude and was an integral member of her faith community. She collected many friends from her neighborhood in Saxon Manor to any city in the world she visited with Wayne on their many travel adventures. She held all these friends dearly and kept a full social calendar her whole life. She cooked extravagant meals and desserts and was generous in passing on these skills and knowledge to her family. Her many passions and talents will live on for generations.
SERVICES: Visitation will be held at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Wednesday, April 24, 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.
Mass will be held at Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church, 6737 S Rock Hill Rd, Thursday, April 25 at 10:00a.m. Interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery.
Marlene was an inspiration to all! She will be truly missed ! A very special lady loved by all
I am so sad to hear this news. Marlene was my beautiful cousin that I loved getting to see on Facebook and not often enough in person. May she rest in peace. Love, Christy
Oh how much she is loved. Her love of everyone around her was so apparent and sweet. The Emig family adored her and her family. I can only imagine the great reunion in heaven with Wayne and her parents…….we will miss her smile and kindnesses forever.
Not only a fellow Longhorn classsmate (Southwest High) but also a fellow parishioner of Seven Holy Founders Parish. She served to coordinate SWH luncheons and sent out the notices. We all will dearly miss her and her contributions and will miss her warmth. PS: She also was a member of my former Parish St. Gabriels.
Was a beloved neighbor to me and my Grandparents (Scherrer’s). They had some great block parties together, and I have lots of stories! I remember her work as a photographer with the Affton School’s newsletter “The Channel” and still have some of the articles she shot pictures for. She will be missed greatly.
