Carole A. Smith passed away in her home in St. Louis, MO on January 25, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on September 23, 1935 to Wilbur and Dorothy (Osborn) Wiese. Carole grew up in St. Louis, married her high school sweetheart, R. Thomas Smith, and then devoted herself to raising their two children. The family moved frequently over the years, living in Missouri, California and Australia before returning to California. During that time, the family had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Asia and the Pacific. Carole enjoyed traveling to new places, including many parts of Europe as well. After the children were grown, Carole lived for a time in Ohio, Colorado, Arizona and Washington, before returning and settling in St. Louis later in life. She enjoyed playing tennis, reading, playing bridge, and line dancing.
Carole had a strong and steadfast faith in God throughout her life and instilled a strong sense of values in her children. Carole is survived by her son, Michael Smith, and his wife Ilana Herzberg, of Alexandria, VA; her daughter, Vicki Smith, and her husband Greg Venburg, of Deerfield, IL; her brother Neil Wiese, and his wife Lana, of Highlands Ranch, CO; and 3 grandsons, Matthew, Mark and Milo.
Interment is at Lakewood Park Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. The family requests that memorials be directed to Lutheran Hour Ministries, a ministry for which Carole’s father worked for many years.
