Volner, Carter U.

February 25, 1932 - March 28, 2025

Carter U. Volner was born in Oates, MO on February 25, 1932 to Roy M. Volner and Della F. Trolinger Volner.  He departed this life at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis on March 28, 2025 at the age of 93 years, 1 month, and 3 days.

Carter graduated from Lesterville High School in 1951 then served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1952 to April 1956 during the Korean War Conflict.  He soon after met and married Christine Shepard on June 29, 1957 and to this union two children were born, Lori Volner Albrecht and Benjamin Volner.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Della, and all of his siblings which consists of three brothers Silas, Coell, and Buell Volner; and five sisters, Gladys Overfelt, Geneva Mathes, Audrey Hinson, Betty Johnson, Bonnie Mathes, and two infant sisters Delight and Vickie.

Carter is survived by his wife Christine of 67 years, daughter Lori Albrecht (husband John), and son Benjamin Volner.  They have five grandchildren and four great grandchildren – Nicolas Rodgers (wife Jessi and sons Rhett and Brooks); Amanda Pyatt (husband Steve and children Ava and Caleb); Adam Albrecht (wife Zerina and daughter Stella); Garrett Volner and Lydia Volner.  He is also survived by one brother in law Vernon Mathes, and one sister in law Betty Volner Ivie, and many nieces and nephews.

Carter was saved and baptized in May 1958 and joined the United Baptist Church of St. Louis where they served for many years.  He and Christine were later members of Salem United Baptist Church and most recently members of Arnold United Baptist Church.

Carter retired from Union Electric Company (now Ameren) after 32 years then moved to reside in Salem MO where they enjoyed 27 years close to relatives and friends and were blessed to spend 26 winters in the Florida sunshine.  While in Florida, he got involved in playing shuffle board on a competitive league and played five years in the Gulf Coast Senior Olympics becoming quite the champion winning numerous trophies and medals.  His other interests included boating, camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends and spending time with his kids, grandkids, family, and friends.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services: Visitation at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., on Thursday, April 3, from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 6 p.m. Commital Service Friday, April 4 at Myers Cemetery in Oats, Missouri with full military honors at 11:30 a.m.

  3. So sorry to hear of the passing of Carter. I was fortunate enough to meet Carter and Christine when I started coming to Florida in 2013 and developing a relationship with them through our Social Club and Shuffleboard Club. Please except my Condolences and Prayers.

  7. We were blessed to know Carter and Chris and even be neighbors in Florida. We loved shuffling with Carter and I (Judy) was so blessed when he gave me one of his shuffle sticks! We already miss them since they haven’t been back to FL for a few years now. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and the family.

  10. I am very Sad to hear of Carter’s passing.I didn’t know him very long but he was a wonderful man.Very friendly . I really enjoyed taking he and Christine for rides and listening to him.Tell me all about Arnold.He will be deeply missed.

  11. Lori, Sue and I are very sorry to hear about your Fathers death. It’s always hard to lose a parent.
    I wish I could say we would see you tomorrow at the funeral, Sue is not able. Months ago she fell and broke some vertebrae. She has had surgery and is recovering well. She walks with a walker, and gets out some, but she don’t get far from home.
    Know that our hearts and prayers are with you through this loss.
