Barbara Witte

In Loving Memory

Witte, Barbara A. (nee Wulkopf)

February 3, 1942 - July 5, 2024

Barbara Ann Witte (nee Wulkopf) passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Barb was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 3, 1942, to Adolph ‘Gondie’ and Agnes (Schuster) Wulkopf. Barb received her bachelor’s degree in education from Harris Teachers College where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. While at college, she met William Robert (Bob) Witte II in a dance class. Barb and Bob were married at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on August 15, 1965. They were together until his death September 4, 2006.

Barb was the devoted mother of Christine (David) Cenatiempo, Michelle Witte, Cynthia (Paul) Lampe, and Robert (Ann) Witte; the loving grandmother of Isabelle, Audrey and Olivia Cenatiempo, Jefferson (Brenna) Lampe, and Josephine (Carter) Datz; great-grandmother of Clara and Felicity Lampe.

Barb was a beloved teacher who touched the lives of hundreds of students, and loved teaching fourth grade the most. She taught in the St. Louis Public School District and at St. Joan of Arc grade school but spent most of her years teaching at Our Lady of Loretto in Spanish Lake.

She co-owned the St. Louis Usher Service with Bob, which provided staff to Powell Symphony Hall, the Gateway Arch, and various high schools throughout St. Louis.

Barb was an intrepid traveler. Her love of traveling included family road trips to Florida, California, and New York. Later, she took many ocean cruises throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. Her adventures were many, and she traveled the world to visit Alaska, Hawaii, Egypt, and many sites throughout Europe. Closer to home, Barb ‘glamped’ at a rustic resort with her family each Labor Day weekend and made wonderful memories playing board games and putting jigsaw puzzles together.

Barb was devoted to her family. She attended sporting events, dance recitals, and school plays for her children and, later, for her grandchildren. She inspired all of them to be travelers with a sense of adventure to see the world. She was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and loved catching a game in person or watching them on TV. She enjoyed testing her knowledge at trivia nights and was a major contributor to many winning teams.
