Obituary: Harry Eugene Wood
Harry Eugene Wood, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
After a year long battle with lung cancer, Harry passed away peacefully at home.
He was the loving husband of the late Janet L. (Pope) Wood. Born to the late John Emery Wood and Letha Delie (Troutman) Wood, Harry was also preceded in death by his beloved parents.
Family and Loved Ones
A devoted family man, Harry was the loving father of Michelle Patricia (Ken) Bushnell, Jill Ann (Mike) Eckert, and Beth Lynn Wood. He was the cherished grandfather of Erin (Alex) Brown, Emily Bushnell, Kayla Zeller, Jacob Vernon, and Anna Kaestner. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Luke Zeller, Enzo Brown, and an eagerly anticipated baby girl Brown, expected to arrive in July 2026.
Harry came from a large, close-knit family and was a dear brother to 13 siblings. He was preceded in death by William (Denver), Raymond, Irvin, Virgil, Opal (Marie) Hascal, Lowell, Lorraine, John Jr., Jessie, Bobby, and James. He is survived by his sister, Emily Frances Mae (Wood) Engelhard, and was a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Education, Military Service, and Career
Harry graduated from Hadley Technical High School and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Following his military service, he built a dedicated career in the printing and typography industries, working for Skinner & Kennedy Printing, York Typographers, and Type Two. He later transitioned into meaningful community leadership, serving as the manager of Jeffco Subcontracting Inc. of Arnold, Missouri—a sheltered workshop dedicated to supporting handicapped adults. He retired from this role in June 2005.
Community and Faith
Deeply invested in his community and the advocacy of others, Harry served on the Board of Directors for Jeffco Subcontracting Inc. as well as the Board of the Missouri Association of Sheltered Workshop Managers.
Harry’s faith was a central pillar of his life. He previously attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Arnold, Missouri, and later became an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arnold, where he gave his time to the church’s Care Connections group.
SERVICES: Funeral on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at John’s Lutheran Church (3517 Jeffco Blvd) 9:30 AM. Visitation on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Kutis South County Chapel (5255 Lemay Ferry Road) from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
