In Loving Memory

Meyer, Steven L. “Steve”

September 27, 1952 - June 30, 2026

Steven L. “Steve” Meyer, of St. Louis, Missouri, entered into his eternal rest on June 30, 2026. Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Cathy (née Ziegler) Meyer; his daughter, Dana Shearman (Christopher); his son, Andrew Meyer (Elizabeth); and his six grandchildren: Nora, Audra, and Emma Shearman, and Grayem, Chandler, and Anniston Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl G. and Mildred M. Meyer.

Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on September 27, 1952, Steve grew up with a great love for sports, playing baseball, basketball, and golf in his youth. After graduating from Cape Central High School, he earned a degree in marketing from Southeast Missouri State University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Steve dedicated 30 years to his career as a bank examiner for the State of Missouri, retiring on the exact same day his wife, Cathy, retired from teaching.

Steve loved his kids. He rarely missed a game or tournament, traveling near and far to cheer on Andy at baseball and Dana in wheelchair tennis and basketball. He meticulously planned summer family road trips to visit MLB stadiums across the country, always hoping to catch a St. Louis Cardinals away game. Later in life, he stepped into the role of proud grandfather to six grandchildren, deeply cherishing family traditions. Steve was a frugal, yet generous man. He found joy in dining out in the company of family and friends, bringing laughter to all who knew him. With a sharp mind, Steve was a skilled writer and held a lifelong love for music.

In his mid-30s, Steve had a benign brain tumor surgically removed but then enjoyed several decades of good health. When the tumor recurred in 2015, a successful surgery gave him a renewed lease on life. Complications one year later unfortunately forced another brain surgery which triggered the first of several strokes and began a ten-year period of declining health.

Throughout this difficult season, Steve’s faith was rekindled. He ultimately confessed his belief in Jesus, finding peace and assurance in the promise of eternal life. Steve thought deeply about the meaning of life. Though he often said he was not a remarkable man, he left a distinct and lasting imprint on everyone who knew him.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, July 12, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Andre’s Banquet Center (Telegraph Rd.). A brief service will begin at 3:30 p.m., with food served at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, Cardinals Care, or the charity of your choice.
