Michael (Mike) P. Houston passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on March 28, 1938, to Clarence and Mary Houston in Peoria, Illinois. Mike attended St. Mark grade school, Spalding Institute and Bradley University. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves and was active in the Air National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Mike’s careers included success in materials handling equipment sales and ended with 25 years as a revenue agent for the IRS. In retirement he found great pleasure in high end men’s clothing sales.
He married his wife, Sharon, in 1993, and together they shared 33 wonderful years. He appreciated being fully immersed in his expanded family. Mike enjoyed countless birthday celebrations, holidays, weddings, baptisms, sporting events, and graduations. He was a generous and devoted older brother who had a positive influence on his siblings in their formative years. He remained keenly interested in all aspects of their lives throughout adulthood. Family gatherings brought him tremendous joy. Always a devoted friend, he remained in contact with childhood and college friends throughout his life.
Mike Houston was a man of multiple and varied interests. He was an avid golfer and bridge enthusiast. Mike was an accomplished swing dancer with his favorite dance partner, Sharon. He served as the president of The Dance Club for 6 years. Mike’s early childhood experiences on Rainbow Lake in Waupaca, Wisconsin initiated his love of boating and water sports. Other interests included scuba diving and downhill skiing. Over the years Mike’s memberships included Normandie Golf Club, The Players Club, the St. Louis Ski Club and The Dance Club of St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (nee Holland), his siblings, Steve Houston (Tina), Carol Robinson (Rob), Doug Houston (Barb), Greg Houston (Mo), his stepchildren, Susan Robben (Tim), Rob Golterman (Anne), John Golterman, as well as many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
Mike was known for his gentle, humble, and caring nature. He never sought recognition or attention, and he listened more than he spoke.He will be remembered with love and missed beyond measure by his family.
Visitation will be at St. Catherine Laboure on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am with interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.

Knew Mike through his brother, Steve,. He played with us as a sub in our online bridge group for the past several years. Always eager to sub and loved playing and learning the game.
Very soft spoken and considerate.
