In Loving Memory

Eggerding, Elaine G. (nee Ungrodt)

Elaine, 97, passed peacefully Feb 14. Beloved mother of Brian Eggerding (Houston, TX), Sharon (Bill) Dierberger (Stillwater, MN), Sandy (Stu) Ehrett (Carrollton, TX); treasured grandmother of Nay Eakins, Emily Eggerding, Kaitlyn (Josh) Wright, John (Clare) Dierberger, and Callie Dierberger, John (Mackenzi) Ehrett, and Pete Ehrett; dear great-grandmother of Summer and JJ Dierberger, Jack Ehrett; loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Elaine radiated warmth and kindness to everyone. She encouraged those around her with affirmation and genuine interest, making all feel welcomed and included. She continually expressed gratitude to God and others, focusing on the good in life and people. She had a ready wit and great sense of fun.

She loved her family well, nurturing her children at home, then becoming an executive confidential secretary at Union Electric. She served on the board of Lutheran Senior Services for many terms. Earlier, she worked on the Racine Adult Education Council for the Ford Foundation, who offered her a full college scholarship. She was editor for Milwaukee Lutheran High School’s Alumni News for years and was named Alumna of the Year in 1953.

Elaine enjoyed traveling, reading, writing, music, Garden Club, nature walks, sewing, and Racine kringle.

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 62 years, Roland, whom she supported in every endeavor; parents John and Esther (Stoffel) Ungrodt; siblings Ruth Eggold, Richard Ungrodt, and William Ungrodt, and grandson Dylan Eggerding.

We will remember Elaine for passing on a legacy of faith, and how her love for the Lord inspired all she said and did.

  1. Elaine was my mentor, my friend, my prayer partner and my cheerleader during our years at Salem, Affton from 1993 – 2005. If there is anyone in the world who I would like to live like, it would be Elaine. She will ever be in my heart. My prayers are with her family.

  3. I just learned of Mrs. Eggerding’s passing. I knew her from Salem and her husband was principal at Lutheran South when I was a student there in the late 70s and early 80s. I sat next to her on the bus as Lutheran High School South’s choir went through Checkpoint Charlie in the summer of 1982. She had many interesting tidbits to share! I also knew her as an adult at Salem Lutheran Church and looked forward to seeing her there when I came to town for a visit after I moved away. Praying for God’s peace to be with her family.
