Stephen Joseph Schoen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 3, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, Stephen was the cherished son of Charles and Delores (Remmler) Schoen. Stephen’s life was a tapestry of love, commitment, craftsmanship, and the great outdoors.
Stephen was preceded in death by his loving parents, and his dear siblings, Chuck and Joan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Deanna, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership since their marriage on April 25, 1987. Together, they nurtured a family that thrived on shared adventures and cherished memories, raising two wonderful children, Andrea (Evan) and David (Courtney).
Stephen took immense pride in being a grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Emma, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his grandson, Colton. His legacy of love will continue to shine brightly through them. He leaves behind his brothers, Thomas (Brigitte) and Timothy (Laura), who were not only his siblings but also his lifelong companions. Stephen’s circle of love extended to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness and generosity.
A dedicated machinist for over four decades, Stephen honed his craft with precision and pride, first at St. Louis Ship and later at McCay Tool and Engineering, where he retired in 2018. His work was not just a job; it was a testament to his meticulous nature and dedication. Beyond his professional life, Stephen was a long-standing member of the Elks Lodge, a community he cherished for over 50 years.
Stephen’s heart found its true home in the great outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace and joy in the woods and on the lakes. His love for nature was not just a hobby but a way of life that he embraced fully, sharing his passion with family and friends. Even in his later years, Stephen could be found in the woods, participating in the deer season that he loved so much.
As we bid farewell to Stephen, we remember him as a man whose life was full of love and adventure. His warmth, humor, and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Stephen’s life was a testament to the power of love, the joy of family, and the beauty of nature. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. His memory will forever be a blessing.
