With cherished memories in our hearts, we say goodbye to Joanne Frances (Weber) Schall, 90, of Richardson, TX, who left us on February 26, 2025.
Joanne was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 21, 1934, to Adolph and Celine (Dax) Weber. The second of the three “Weber girls”, Joanne would often fondly recall her childhood adventures growing up with her sisters, Mary Lou and Yvonne, in Carondelet, St Louis. She would often regale listeners with tales of the happenings of Pennsylvania Avenue, taking art classes at the museum, playing soccer with the boys, and stories of her parents, aunt, and uncles.
In 1956, Joanne graduated from her beloved Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts and married Edward Schall. They moved to Michigan State University for Ed to advance his education while she dedicated herself to her children and painting. In 1965, they moved to Dallas, TX, where they continued to grow their family, purchasing their home in Richardson in 1968. Joanne prioritized her children’s opportunities in sports and activities. Joanne continued to paint and became Public Relations Manager for several McDonalds stores. She adored her job, often reminiscing on in-store events and window displays she designed. While separated from her sisters by many miles, she made numerous trips to St. Louis, and Hawaii to reunite with them, those visits remaining one of the great joys of her life. An ardent follower of the Catholic faith, she joined the Parish of St. Paul’s after moving to Richardson and taught Religious Education for several years. Later, she became a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas.
Joanne was a fiery spirit who could find fun (and mischief) in any situation. She enjoyed the simple pleasures, appreciating a moment at her fishpond or listening to the birds. Her garden was a favorite passion, full of blooms and greenery throughout the year. She loved cooking for her family and every holiday her home would be festively decorated and filled with the smells of her favorite seasonal meals. She spent many afternoons wandering around the various museums around Dallas or at the Arboretum, and always while sporting a favorite hat. She especially loved children and showing them the joys of the world, always engaging in a craft or performance. She was an artist who saw beauty in the small details. She loved her children and her grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her family.
Her legacy lives on with her 6 children, Michael (Bé) Schall of Phoenix, Rene (Scott) Hammett of Richardson, Christopher Schall of Richardson, Denise (Lee) VanVolkenburg of Euless, Allyson Schall Townsend of Gladewater, and David (Hope) Schall of Plano; her 10 grandchildren, Alexis Townsend, Madeleine Townsend, Christian Hammett, Mackenzie Winston, Taylor VanVolkenburg, Steele (Arianna) Schall, Austin VanVolkenburg, Alexander Winston, Nicholas (Elena) Hammett, and Hayley (Jesse) Siragusa; and 3 great grandchildren, Olivia Hammett, Emilia Siragusa, and Henry Siragusa; numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Joanne has been reunited with her parents, Adolph and Celine; her loving sisters, Yvonne Marie Mulligan and Mary Lou Magno; and daughter, Andrea Lee Schall.
A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at All Saints Catholic Church at 5231 Meadowcreek Dr, Dallas, TX on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:00 pm with reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Burial service will take place at Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery 7030 Gravois Ave, Saint Louis, MO 63116 on March 8th at 10:00 am. (314-792-7737).
