James Nowak

In Loving Memory

Benson, James Thomas

November 22, 1964 - February 11, 2026

Entered into rest February 11, 2025

Preceded in death by Father, Jack Benson, and Mother, Patricia Ann Benson (nee Dotson). Dear brother of Robert Benson (Linda), Don Benson, (Joanne), Vicki Nowak (Kevin), Dave Benson (Jane); dear Uncle to Monica Benson, Michael Benson (Kourtney), Stacey Olsen (Zack) and Hannah Benson; Great Uncle to Aryia, Sofya and Everly; dear cousin and friend.

A lifelong fan of baseball and the Cardinals, Jim enjoyed keeping track of sports of all kinds. After graduating from St. John the Baptist High School in 1983, he went on to work at National Supermarkets. The son of a machinist, he inherited a knack for fixing things, a skill he put to good use when he worked for American Foundry as a machine operator where he found joy in working with his hands and took great pride in the various products made there. Later, he worked for St. Vincent DePaul thrift stores, and embraced working in an environment where his efforts could benefit so many other people.

Jim had a unique personality that enabled him to be perfectly content spending time on his own, but he also truly loved every family gathering. With his quiet demeanor, he wasn’t one to express his feelings, but his love for family was always evident when we were together. Jim was a kind man who never wanted anyone to be bothered or make a fuss on his behalf. He never complained and was happy to tell you that everything was fine, just to keep you from worrying. Free from the difficulties of this life, he can now rest knowing he was loved by many.

Services: Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Monday February 16th 10:00 AM until service at 1:00 PM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

  2. Although it’s not like it used to be when we were young and got together frequently, i have many fond memories of getting together and having some fun with a few Benson/Dotson shenanigans on Gano and Schirmer Ave’s. We were blessed with the sweetest G’ma ever💞and it was always a thrill when our Aunt Pat & Uncle Jack had a new cousin to meet💞Jim was very brave, and I’m sure they are all having quite a reunion up in heaven💞

  3. I feel just like Julie about our childhood with our cousins. I remember asking my dad to take me to Aunt Pat’s whenever she had a new baby. So many sweet memories! My heart is breaking for you all, dear cousins.
