Bishop2

In Loving Memory

Bishop, Robert D  “Pete”

Loving husband of 69 years to  Barb Bishop (nee Hodges). Loving father of Mike (Laura) Bishop, Kevin (Lisa) Bishop.  Cherished Grandfather to his grandsons, whom he was their biggest fans, Mikey, Drew, Cody, Jack and Ryan Bishop. He also was a step grandfather to four children; Erin, Jeane, Lauren and Joey. Born on March 17th, 1935 in Simmons, MO, he was the dear  son of Frank and Anna (Hogan) Bishop and youngest brother of nine children; Wilburn, Thelma, Edna, Hazel, Gladine, Norma, Jackie and Lewis.

Pete was a cherished father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest pride was his family, especially his beloved grandsons. Pete was a lifelong sports enthusiast, he found immense joy in watching all five grandkids grow and thrive on the court and field, always beaming with pride at each new accomplishment and milestone. Their bond was a testament to the special, irreplaceable relationship between a grandparent and grandson.  He himself was a student athlete who participated in football, basketball, boxing, track and baseball at Houston High School, where he received an athletic scholarship to Coffeyville Junior College.

Pete was a Barber whose skillful hands and warm heart touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his career. For over 65 years, Pete was the friendly face and owner behind the barber’s chair at Varsity Barber Shop, a place in Kirkwood, MO where clients were not just patrons but friends.  Pete was known for his engaging conversations, and his genuine care for each person who walked through his door.

Celebration of life for Pete will be announced soon.

  1. I will miss my Uncle Bob.
Bob was my uncle, but was more like a big brother to me and my brother Jim. He was always there for us, giving us advice and encouragement throughout our younger years. I will cherish the memories of our time together. He taught me how to confront bullies, how to approach sports, how to approach new challenges, and many other events in life. On our float trips down the Piney River, I thought he was a combination of Tarzan and Superman.
I will miss my Uncle Bob.

  2. My brother stated it so well and I echo his comments. Bob was our uncle but more than that, he WAS our “big brother” and I can think of no one I admired more. I will miss his encouragement and love but I have it to remember for rest of my life. Rest well Big Brother you accomplished so much of all the important things in your life.

He touched so many lives and was a great listner to all of his friends and patrons at his Barber shop. What a great loss that his passing will leave to everyone who knew him and especially his family. We send our very deepest sympathy to all of you and may God be with you and comfort you. 4. I will miss my “Big Bob”, as our family called him. He was my uncle but only 5 years older than me so we more or less grew up together. His great laugh will always be remembered and his gentle nature will always be coveted as a nature I desire in my life. I will miss him so very much. Love and sympathy to all the family, Barb, children and grands.
