Brugere, Jr. Lester Xavier

 

(95) passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 12, 2021, with loved ones by his side. Lester X. Brugere Jr. was born at the home of his late parents, Mr. Lester X. Brugere Sr., and Mrs. Johanna Brugere (Ne: Hoffman) on McNair Ave, December 22, 1925.

Visitation: Kutis Funeral Home on 10151 Gravois Rd, St. Louis 12/28/2021 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Memorial Service: 12/29/2021 12:30 PM at Kutis Funeral Home.

He will be laid to rest on 12/29/2021 at 1:30 PM beside is wife, Marie Brugere at Jefferson Barracks with full Military Funeral Honors. Friends and family are invited to Lester’s Celebration of Life to follow burial at the home of Lester X. Brugere III located at 73 Sunfish Dr, Defiance, MO 63341.

Lester X. Brugere Jr. attended school at St. Agnes Catholic school for five years, and Sigel grade school until 6th grade. He attended St. George School in the 7th – 8th grade, and two years at St. John the Baptist, high school at 4200 Delor Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63116. The summer of 1943, Lester worked for the St. Louis Railroad terminal and during that time also went to night school at Roosevelt High School until December when he was drafted into the navy.

Les proudly served his country in WWII in as Fireman Second Class in the South Pacific on the USS Massachusetts. The ship was nicknamed “Big Mamie” and is moored at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts as a navy museum and memorial. Les and Marie proudly toured the ship many times with his children and grandchildren.

After serving our country, Les attended, Baily School of Electronics where he learned TV and radio repair. After graduation he worked for Smith Empire Furniture Company repairing TVs and damaged furniture. While working for Empire he began his own business repairing TVs at his parent’s house on Melbourne Ave, where he lived until he was married.

On June 24, 1950, he married Marie Louise Marquitz of Fenton, Missouri and opened his own repair shop on Michigan Avenue. The front the building on Michigan Avenue was the repair shop business and the back of the building was their living quarters. He is survived by four children; Marie Antionette (Greg) Brugere-Wilson, Eileen Speer, Renee (Roger) Nath, and Lester (Christie) Brugere III; nine grandchildren; Christopher (Ivy) Moyers, Ben (Krista) Moyers, Valerie (Kyle) Bowie ne: Moyers, Jason (Tiffany) Speer, Matthew Rosales, Ivan Brugere, Kirsten (Austyn) Cooper ne: Brugere, Alexa Brugere, Justin Husted,  eight great-grandchildren; Marissa Moyers, Micah Moyers, Reese Moyers, Carson Moyers, Adeline Bowie, Emelia Speer, Pazo Rosales, Kendall Cooper.

In 1955 Les moved his family to Portland, Oregon where he worked in TV repair and for Sears warehouse. In 1959 the Les moved his family back to St. Louis, Missouri where he continued working for Sears warehouse. In 1959 he bought a lot for $700 in Martel Ridge Subdivision of St. Charles County and started building a house shortly thereafter. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dardenne, Missouri.

In 1969 he was hired by Monsanto Electronic Materials Company (MEMC) in St. Peters, Missouri and worked in production and production support for 27 years until he retired.

He loved and was loved.

  1. To my buddy Les. Ive had the pleasure to care for Les the last couple of years. We had some good times! I will miss his jokes, stories and especially his laugh. My heart goes out to his family. He was truly loved and will be truly missed. Rest In Peace my dear friend.

  3. Saddened to learn of Lester’s passing. He is my father’s cousin. I fondly remember him and his wife, Marie. Rest in Peace.
    P.S. My father, Melvin J. Brugere Jr. died 10-18-2020 at age 92.

  5. Uncle Les & Aunt Marie were two of my favorite people & now they are back together. On Christmas Day for years they & their adult kids & Grandkids would come over & play games. Great memories! My husband, Gene Niemeyer & I often got together with them to play Pinochle. Rest In Peace! Especially loved Uncle Les’ sense of humor! Love, Minnie
