In Loving Memory

Desmond, Linda J. (nee Peterson)

May 21, 1940 - January 3, 2025

Linda J. Desmond. With great sadness, we announce the death of Linda Desmond, age 84, who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025.

She was the beloved mother of four daughters, Julie Desmond, Amy Zawalski (Mark), Susan Colombo (Ryan), and Jennifer Sturm (Josh), and a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren, Michael (Erin), Tom, Lauren, Kate, Mario, Anna, Maggie, Leo, Gretchen, Patrick and Libby.

Linda was raised in Chicago, where she met her one true love, Edwin Desmond Jr.  Ed was a career military officer, and Linda followed him and his career all over the Midwest. They were happily married for over 60 years.  They loved to travel, attend musical performances, The Fox Theater, and were doting grandparents who took care of all of their grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL 10151 Gravois Rd. (63123) on January 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a small remembrance service to follow at 3 p.m. Linda will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

  1. We have had a lifetime of great memories with Linda & Ed. A lifetime filled with laughter, sadness and true, loving friendship. We pray that our two dear friends are now at peace hugging each in their loving arms.

  2. Dear Desmond Family.
I first met Linda in Chicago where I served in several Army Reserve units with Ed (CPT). Later in our lives our paths crossed again in St Louis and Linda continued to be a tremendous supporter of Reserve unit families. Linda and Ed were role models to all who came across their paths. I’m sure many military families learned a great deal from Linda and her love of family and country.
