St. Louis – David Francis Greiner, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Dave was born July 26, 1937, in St. Louis, MO to August and Marie Greiner. Dave married the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) on October 7, 1961 and together they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Pat passed away in 2023. He is survived by his children Dave (Lori) Greiner, Carl (Laura) Greiner and Donna (Kevin) Herr; his grandchildren, Kristina, AJ, Anthony (Rebecca), Kim (Mike), Zachary (Brenna), Geoffrey, Tommy, Sarah and Tim; and great-granddaughter Adelynn.
He is a beloved brother to the late Doris (late Les) Plummer and the late Richard (Dick) (late Isabel). He is survived by his sister-in-law Susan (late Bud) and his sister-in-law Jeanine (late Rich).
He was known by many names, dad, grandpa, grandslappypappy, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, friend – and is loved by all. He was a “union man” as he spent his working career at Laclede Gas (he was not a fan of the name change to “Spire”). Dave never met a stranger. As a meter reader, he would spend his days walking 8 – 12 miles a day and interacting with people on his routes.
After he retired, he would swim laps at the local YMCA or neighborhood pool several days a week to keep active; he even participated in the Senior Olympics. He could often be found sharing a cup of coffee with friends while socializing and kibitzing during the week at McDonalds or on Sunday after mass at Panera.
He had a love for art and many special gifts he shared with others. He made stained glass decorations and enjoyed drawing, he and mom sang in choirs, bowled in leagues, travelled, and enjoyed attending musicals and concerts with family and friends. His most precious gift was the time he spent with his grandchildren – being with them and attending all their activities and events.
A special thank you to the many people of Laclede Groves for the loving care and friendship they have offered and supplied. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts we encourage you to spend time with family and friends sharing stories of Dave.
Visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois Rd., St. Louis, MO 63123) on Friday, February 28 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, March 1 at St. Margaret of Scotland (3854 Flad Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110) at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
I will always remember Mr. Greiner as funny, joyful, and an easy and willing conversationalist. Such a wonderful legacy he (and Mrs. Greiner before him) left in their children and grandchildren – all good humans! Peace and love to the Greiners and Herrs during this difficult time.
I’m praying for your whole family as you grieve the loss of this kind, loving father, grandfather, sibling, uncle, and friend. Pat belonged to a prayer group of which I’m a member. One of the things that always stood out to me was how devoted At and Dave were to eachother, their family, God, and their many friends. Karen Naeger/Venablel
Dave was a close friend for many years. He was an uplifting kind of person. We shared a love for music attending many musical plays locally. He will be greatly missed. The world has lost a jewel. Rest in peace, Amen
Dave was a sparkling guy. Always ready to lend a hand or an idea to help. After knowing him over a 50 year period he and his cheerful attitude will be missed. I’m sure he will rest in peace.
Dave was a great guy. Him and his good wife visited our gym at St. Margaret of Scotland to cheer on their grandchildren many times, and I enjoyed visiting with him and talking about my uncle, Michael Sutton, who he used to work with at Laclede Gas. I’m happy he’s with his great wife and our heavenly Father, but I can’t help being saddened because one of the good guys is gone. Godspeed, Dave.
I was a caregiver for Dave and loved his sense of humor and playfulness. I enjoyed spending time with him and offer condolences to Dave, his son, and other family members as well as friends.
Uncle David was a kind man with an endearing smile and a warm heart. Sorry to lose him but happy that maybe he got his Valentine Day wish to be with aunt Pat. We are thankful that we did the family reunion last summer and were able to be together for a happy event with him at the senior seat of honor!
We last saw Uncle Davis at a Greiner family reunion last summer and he was in a good place while reminiscing about old times. He seemed to be doing well and that will be my last memory and a good one. He will now be able to join the love of his life (Aunt Pat)
Dave and Pat were some of the first neighbors I met when I moved to the Southampton neighborhood. They were wonderful neighbors!
Uncle David made the best salami sandwiches in St. Louis. Nothing better than stopping for a sandwich and a conversation every time I was in the area!
Dear Carl and family, please accept my prayers and sympathy as you grieve the loss of your father.
