In Loving Memory

Gutmann, Thomas & Patricia

Thomas Paul Gutmann, March 16, 1946, and Patricia Ann Gutmann, March 17, 1946, both of Des Peres, Missouri, passed away on July 9, 2022.

Tom and Pat leave behind children Thomas Patrick Gutmann (Kathy), Laura (Sam) Dimech, and Kristin (Tyge) Fourtner.  They will be truly missed by their loving grandchildren Abbie Gutmann (Ryan Vick), Hannah (Austin) Zimmerman, Casey Dimech, Morgan Dimech, Charlie Dimech, Tyler Fourtner, and Katherine Fourtner.  Pat and Tom were a dear sister, aunt, uncle, and friend to many.

Tom and Pat both grew up in St. Louis and were high school sweethearts.  They created beautiful memories together, vacationing with family and their close-knit friend groups, playing bridge, watching Cardinals baseball, walking at the Botanical Gardens, and being involved in their children’s and then grandchildren’s various activities.

Tom was a fun-loving and competitive spirit.  He excelled in baseball, pitching for Washington University, and later played racquetball, golf, and pickle ball.  He collected friends through his career at Arch Coal, Price Waterhouse, Schlitz, Pepsi Cola Bottling, Vitek/BioMerieux, and Lewis Pumps.

Pat was a dedicated mother, always interested in the world around her.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Maryville University in 1994, and worked for various legal firms and Ralston Purina.  She enjoyed the St. Louis Speaker Series since its earliest years.

Visitation will be Monday, July 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, Affton 63123.  Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 19 at 10:00 at St. Clement, 1510 Bopp Road, Des Peres, 63131.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to Behavioral Health Response, bhrstl.org.G

  3. Pat was a classmate of mine at Cor Jesu and we carpooled to St Louis University freshman year. In the past several years we reconnected and had lunch occasionally. We remarked on how nice it was to share our ups and downs with someone who knew us since we were kids. She was a kind and wonderful friend and a good listener. She was also a person who was devoted to Tom and her children and was interested in the world around her. My love and sympathy to all her children and grandchildren! I will miss her very much.

  7. Heartfelt condolences to Tom an Pat’s loved ones and many friends. I worked with Tom at Lewis Pumps; actually and more accurately, as the CFO he was my immediate supervisor in my role as the controller for a good number of years. He was very approachable and intelligent, with an endearing and quirky personality and sense of humor. More than being my ‘boss’, he was a friend and wonderful mentor who had my back more times than I can count! I will always remember his telling me about all of you children ~ it was apparent that he cherished you all so very much!
In the course of things I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Pat as well; truly one of the nicest and kindest woman that was my fortune to know. I admired her very much. It was with great sorrow that I learned of their loss. Caring thoughts to you all.

  15. Pat was a cousin to my Dad (Jack Finklang) and my second cousin. She always had a smile on her face and listened and was very positive in our communications. I hope she and her husband did not suffer. Good people should not suffer. Sending positive thoughts to their family.

  17. I have known Pat since we were five years old. We grew up on the same street and walked to grade school together. Then we went to the same high school. We have remained friends through these many years. Pat was always kind and generous. She and Tom graciously opened their home to our high school class for our last two reunions. They were devoted to their family. My deepest sympathy to Pat and Tom’s children and grandchildren on this terrible loss. You will all be in my prayers. All of us who knew and loved them will also miss them terribly.

  19. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Gutmann children, grandchildren and family members. Tom and Pat drove to Eagle River, WI in a snow storm to attend my husbands memorial in2018. They were our friends for 50 years. Pat and I kept in phone contact mostly talking about our families. She was a true friend I will miss those calls.

  25. For once in my life, I’m at a loss for words except to say how much I will miss Pat, We often walked to Our Lady of Sorrow grade school together. After graduation, our lives took different paths. Happily, we resumed our friendship several years ago at the check out lane at Schnuck’s. She was a loving and a joyful friend. Before the pandemic we often went out to lunch, but the past two years we enjoyed what Pat called “phone visits.” Our last fun phone visit was July 1st when we made plans to drive through our old neighborhood. We also planned to go to the Botanical Gardens together and to Bravo’s for lunch again. What a tragic loss for Pat and Tom’s family, and we were all blessed to have had Pat and Tom in our lives. They will be missed and loved always.

We are so sorry for your loss. We had known Tom and Pat for much of our lives. But only since we returned to St Louis did our friendship grow. We will miss them but have fond memories of travels, lunches, dinners and golf that bring smiles to our faces.

  33. Tom and Pat were our neighbors for 30 years. What a wonderful couple. Soon after we moved in, our golden retriever decided to join the Gutmann family in their backyard pool. This became a fairly regular visit even though we also had a pool. Our current doodle would greet Tom on his morning jaunt to get the paper. She loved Tom, and his unending pets (and dog treats).
Pat and I enjoyed gardening talk. I will never forget her painting their chain link fence by hand. What a hard job. It looked fantastic.
Tom and I would often discuss kids, healthcare or politics. It was always interesting to hear his take on things. I smile thinking about it.
    We will miss them dearly.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy for the sudden loss of your parents. We have such fond memories of our times together as neighbors in Brookfield and for a friendship that has lasted for more than 50 years. In fact, we were planning on getting together for a weekend this fall. Please know that even though we are miles away, you are all in our hearts as you go through this difficult time.

  37. My deepest sympathy on the loss of your parents. Pat and I worked at Ralston Purina from the time she started in the early 90s until we left when Nestle bought Purina in 2002. We visited throughout the subsequent years and shared many great memories of our years together at Purina. I was shocked to just learn of their passing today. My prayers and condolences go out to all of their children and grandchildren. Pat and Tom will be greatly missed.
