Joseph A. Helfrich, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 1, 2022.
Beloved husband of 72 years to Rose M. (Hougland) Helfrich. Dear father to Marlene (Roger) Kleffner, John (Dean) Helfrich, Mark (the late Cynthia) Helfrich, Paul Helfrich, and Miriam (James) Stonebraker. Grandfather of Andrew Kleffner, Vickie (Cody) Kelly, Paul Jr. (Erin) Helfrich, Carisa (Ryan) Depew, and Kimberly (Taro) Shimizu. Great-grandfather of Hadley, Henry, William, John, Vera, and Otto.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Josef and Angela (Jost) Helfrich. Brother of the late Katherine (Helfrich) Harber, Angela (Helfrich) Daugherty, and the late Nicholas Helfrich. Uncle, great-uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend.
Growing up in the shadow of the brewery, Joseph attended Freemont Elementary School and graduated from McKinley High School in 1948. On November 18, 1950, Joseph Helfrich married Rose Hougland at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Joseph proudly served God, country, community, and family. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War (1951-1952) and proud St. Louis City Firefighter (1958 to 1988). Joseph was a member of the St. Louis Association of Retired Professional Firefighters and IAFF Local 73.
Joseph was a dedicated husband, setting a true example of lifetime love and commitment. As a father and grandfather, he taught the values of honesty, dependability, self-reliance, and hard work. Joseph was most happy when surrounded by his large loving family.
Memorial Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123, on Wednesday, July 13 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm. Memorial Service at Kutis Affton Chapel on Thursday July 14 at 1:30 pm. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery immediately following service.

Became acquainted with Joe at the dental office I was employed by. I enjoyed our conversations at each visit. Very kind,always smiling! I will very much miss him.
