In Loving Memory

Herberholt, Lawrence Anthony

January 1, 1942 - March 31, 2026

Lawrence Anthony Herberholt passed away on March 31st, 2026 at the age of 84 surrounded by family.  Larry was born on New Year’s Day, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Beatrice “Bea” and Jerome “Pete” Herberholt.

Throughout his career, Larry worked for Anheuser Busch, Honeywell, McDonnell Douglas, and the St. Louis Art Museum where he served as a building engineer.  Larry took pride in coming up with creative solutions at the Art Museum and working hard to maintain proper humidity and temperature controls for the artwork and collections in the historic building.

Larry found real enjoyment in the outdoors and being near water. He liked fishing, boating, water skiing, canoe float trips, family vacations in Florida, bicycling, and visiting local parks and natural attractions. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and cheered on the St. Louis Blues for many years. Larry also had a resourceful habit of occasionally salvaging useful items others had set out for the trash and kept abreast of national events as a self-professed ‘news junkie.’

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughters, Jennifer and Ann (Jay); his son, Matt; his three grandchildren, Ava, Alex, and Vivian; and his siblings, Jerry (Judy), Bob (Paulette), Rich (the late Sandy) and Bill (Dottie).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choosing.

Visitation at Our Lady of Providence Catholic Church, 8866 Pardee Rd., St. Louis, MO 63123, Friday, April 17, 9:00 am until funeral mass at 10:00 am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Condolences

  1. Hi Jennifer:

Thanks again for sharing all the information. That led to a longer conversation with Bill where we shared memories. Now I just heard from Bill that your Dad passed peacefully this afternoon. I have memories of the good times our family shared with the Herberholt’s in St. Louis as I was growing up and Larry was part of that. I loved your Grandmother Aunt Bea and loved to tease your Grandfather Uncle Jerry about the benefits of electricity over gas.

I appreciated the many connections that your Dad made with our family over the years and again for their visit to Colorado Springs for my Mom’s funeral and the pictures he took at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery when my parents were interred. It was not always an easy relationship but I know he meant well. We finally agreed leave politics out of our conversation. My Dad appreciated his efforts to connect in many ways. Even though I seldom met with my extended family face-to-face, I think of you often and pray for you all once a week at Mass. It’s great to see how the family has grown and how all my second cousins seem to be flourishing. Please share my sympathy with your Mom and siblings.

  2. A true gentleman and a friend of many who fished with him at Suson County Park.
Larry went by the name “One Fish Larry”.
I fished with Larry at Suson and over in Waterloo IL.
We will miss him fishing and walking his dog around the park.

  3. As another who fished with Larry, he always had a kind word for me, even when we kidded him about his “One Fish” capability. I know he will be greatly missed by his family, and also all the guys that fished with him at the park.

  4. Looking at his photo, I am struck by how his smile never changed over the years. I can still hear his laugh. Jon never had another friend quite like Larry. Great memories of seeing them play Slow Pitch baseball and winning the tournament in Florissant, Missouri. and doing so many things together.

  5. So sad to hear of Larry’s passing. I know he will be greatly missed by his family, and friends, especially by his fishing partners at Suson Park, where he had the nickname of “One Fish Larry”, because of his tremendous ability to catch one fish. What a kind soul, that will be missed.
