Mary Agnes Kenefick was born on November 21, 1931 to Carl and Eulalia (nee Prinster) Schaeffer in St. Louis, MO and entered into rest on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the age of 91.
Mary was the loving wife of George Thomas Kenefick, Jr. Dear mother of Mary Karin Cote, and loving grandmother of Thomas Jacob Cote, and Jean Luke Cote.
She was the dear sister of sixteen (16) siblings: the late Jerry (Phylis) Schaeffer, the late Charlie (Anne) Schaeffer, the late Anita (Charlie) Sweeney, the late Robert (surviving Loretto) Schaeffer, Joan (the late Charles) Nigh, Virginia (the late Charlie) McFarland, the late Rita (Richard) Franklin, the late Ruth Schaeffer, Lois (John) Pollard, the late Carole (Raymond) Kramer, Jane (Robert) Harr, the late Tom (Ellen) Schaeffer, the late Richard (surviving Carol) Schaeffer, Judy (Frank) Fenton, the late Mark (April) Schaeffer, and John (Margie) Schaeffer.
Mary was also known as Sister Carl Joseph for having formerly served as a nun with the Carondelet Sisters of St. Joseph. She was a dedicated teacher at several Catholic schools, and also taught at Affton Grade School. Mary had a creative side, and loved to create oil paintings and crafts. She was also an avid water skier!
SERVICES: Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, on Thursday, November 16 from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at Assumption Catholic Church 4725 Mattis Rd, St. Louis, MO on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Hillsboro, MO on Monday, November 20. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Birthright of Hillsboro, MO.
I pray for strength from Heaven for all of you, she is in peace young healthy in heaven seeing all of the family and friends she has missed! . I know words don’t help your pain, you will always miss her but her spirit is with you at all times. Your memories keep alive, She is your Angel in Heaven and will watch out for you all, And when you hear that little voice or feel a pinch it’s her letting you know she is with you!! You will see her again as she will be at Heavens gate when it’s your time!!! 🙏❤️
Mary was a wonderful wife to my sweet brother. She was so vibrant and active. She was a great teacher, baker, craftsman, sewing of clothes and crafts. She and Tom were excellent dancers at parties. They met at the Collegiate Club at Chateau in Clayton. Mary was a sharp dresser always colorful and so well put together everywhere she went. I’ll miss her conversation and humor. I know she is with Jesus. God bless Tom and Karin. ✝️
Mary was my wonderful sister and dear friend. She was always there for me and my family. We shared many fun, prayerful and silly times together. My most vivid memory of Mary is her sharing the tough times with me. There to console and help. Me and my children will miss her and never forget her kindness. Tom and Mary were our neighbors for 12 years. We could not have ever gotten better neighbors and friends. We helped them and they helped us! I will never forget Mary filling sandbags and Tom helping Jim build a dam and a deck when we built our boathouse. Mary and I were each other’s “go to” when we needed prayers. We had a lot of fun with them during their visits with us in Florida. When Fr. Faherty stayed the night with us, he wanted to play Kings on the Corner. I didn’t have a clue how to play and Mary came over and played cards with him. She won. The impromptu dinners we had together in our boathouse – or theirs were priceless. Golfing with Mary was a blast! I treasure the friendship we had with both Tom and Mary. I know she’s got one of the highest seats in heaven. My sympathy to Tom, Karin their grandsons and all of their family.
