Nicolas Nelson Krapu, born on April 12, 1943, in Pike Township, Northern Minnesota, and passed away on September 19, 2024 at the Mary Queen of Mother Center skilled nursing facility. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eino Nickolai Krapu and Lila Irene Pelt Krapu and his nephew Kirk Wicke.
Nick grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1961. After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served until his honorable discharge on September 4, 1967.
His love for electronics began early. At the age of 14, he became the youngest person in Minnesota to earn a HAM radio license and he built his own radio. This passion led him to a lifelong career in applied electronics. Nick contributed to innovative projects, including work at IBM on some of the first tape drives for mainframe computers, as well as helping to manufacture the early ultrasound machines for the medical industry.
He is survived by his siblings: Juliann Marie Bennett of Centennial, Colorado; Victoria Irene Krapu of Denver, Colorado; and Thomas Matthew Krapu of St. Louis, Missouri. Nick is also lovingly remembered by his niece, Sonya Light, and his nephews, Paul Bennett, Daniel Krapu and Benjamin Krapu.
