Larm

In Loving Memory

Larm, Gregory Barlow

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Beloved husband of Jeannine Dunnegan-Larm. Cherished son of the late Effa Jane (Barlow) and Herbert Larm. Loving brother of Rebecca (Paul) McGovern and the late Stephen (Surviving Julie) Larm. Dear brother-in-law of James B. Dunnegan, and the late Steven Dunnegan, and son-in-law of the late Clara and James Dunnegan. Dear uncle of 10, great-uncle of 17, godfather, cousin, friend, and colleague to many.

Born in Boonville, MO, raised in Jefferson City, MO, Greg was a proud graduate of Helias Catholic High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. Greg was a much admired, respected, and trusted National Bank Examiner. He spent 36 years with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, beginning his career while still a student at Rockhurst. He served in various regulatory roles in banks throughout the country. His primary focus was on commercial credit, leveraged finance, credit risk management, and credit policy. Greg was also responsible for creating industry-wide guidance and policy and provided advice on significant credit risk within the national banking system. He led national committees and network groups, and served as a frequent instructor of credit-related training. Upon retirement, he joined Alvarez & Marsal as a Senior Director advising banks on a broad range of financial and supervisory issues. He was a mentor to many and the biggest supporter of his colleagues.

Our forever hardworking Eagle Scout, Greg went above and beyond to make sure everyone had what they needed. A sharp dressed, funny, charming, gentleman. He was a generous old soul with a deep voice, sly grin, impeccable memory, and upbeat outlook. His secret affection for Lucy the cat was actually well known.

Greg loved sports and was a talented baseball player with a powerful swing. A life-long fan and long time season ticket holder of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and Mizzou Football. His favorite times were attending games with family and friends. Trips to spring training and golf vacations with friends were a highlight each year. Greg and Jeannine shared a love of travel, looking forward to each new adventure, sharing laughs over their many mishaps.

Greg’s deep faith carried him through many health challenges during his last few years. He never complained, feeling blessed for all he had, as there was always someone who had it worse than him. His most cherished moments were spent with family and friends. He was the proudest uncle and great-uncle, always ready to jump in and have some fun. Greg taught us many things, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and humility. In his honor, please do a random act of kindness, and hug those you love.

Services: Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel (5255 Lemay Ferry) on Thursday, December 28. 10AM mass at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (4900 Ringer Rd.). Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers masses preferred. Visitation Wednesday 4-7PM

I went to 12 years of school with Greg and always thought of him as such a good person. It was so nice to reunite with him and get to meet you at our class reunions. May God give you the strength you need as you lay him to rest, but I know he will forever be in your heart.

  12. My deepest sympathy to you Jeannine and family. Greg was such a kind, caring and happy man that I feel honored to know him over so many years. He was always a bright spot in my day and made sure everyone was smiling. I know he is at peace now after such a valiant fight but that still leaves a very large hole for all of us to try to fill by being “Greg” to others. My prayers to you Jeannine for God to help you through such a sad time.

  13. Dear Jeannine, Mark and I are so very sad to hear about Greg. As Mark said when we found out, he was one of the good guys. He truly was and we are so very sorry that circumstances don’t allow for us to be at his services this morning. I knew Greg before I knew Mark through my father and the OCC. My parents just adored him and his sweet smile. Mark had the privilege of working with Greg throughout their careers and even after. We are so sorry for the battle he faced, but grateful to know that he is whole again in the arms of heaven and we will all meet again. Kim and Mark Mawhiney

  14. Uncle Greg was a wonderful man. A man of taste…. for popcorn/ham/Gates BBQ and Ted Drews ice cream. Some of my earliest and favorite memories are of going to his house in St Louis. Getting to see old Busch Stadium and watching Ozzie Smith play, then collecting plastic cups from games as a souvenir. Or he would take us to the St Louis Zoo, then cook some burgers or ribs. Even make homemade ice cream. He would take the TV from the kitchen and bring into the room for me and my brother to watch at night before bed when we visited. He would fire up his computer and play the only game he had on his pc back then, a golf game lol.

If it wasn’t St Louis, it was driving to Columbia to watch a Mizzou football game. We would bring the Gates from KC and he would bring the Fitz from STL. His seats by Popcorn man hold such good memories. And with any sporting event, Uncle Greg would always insist on getting us a ham sandwich or ice cream, knowing we would want some, and us knowing deep down so did he, and that’s why he was so persistent LOL. The memory that comes to mind with this is when we went to Six Flags with him. He kept asking if anyone wanted a snow cone, everyone passed saying they were good. Uncle Greg kept asking, and finally focused on my younger sister Maggie, saying “Come on Maggie, I know you want a snow cone.” Maggie understanding that Uncle Greg wanted a snow cone, she said sure. He comes back with 2 snow cones insisting he just wanted a bite and someone else could have the rest of one LOL.

Along with being an amazing Uncle, he also brought an amazing Aunt into my life. If it wasn’t for Uncle Greg marrying Aunt Jeannine, Aunt Jeannine would never have been a part of my life, and I am thankful everyday she is. The two of them seemed to work so well. Uncle Greg had the mints and tums, but Aunt Jeannine would bring the candy, cookies and baked goods 🙂 Those muffins she makes were oh so delicious. The two of them gave some of the most talked about, most loved, xmas gifts. From Mizzou or Cardinal apparel, anything Eddie Bauer or Jos A Bank, every gift was thought out. If you got something that didn’t fit or you didn’t like the color, just mention it, and he would run out to his car and bring in a box with different sizes or colors. A niece or nephew turned 16? It’s time for the Valvoline Oil Change gift certificates. Rewatching the videos of family xmas is something I’ve done the last 4 or 5 years, and will continue to rewatch every year. The banter between Uncle Steve and Uncle Greg are classic. And although I miss both of them very much, I am grateful to have had them be a part of my life, and they will continue to live inside of me.

Everything and anything Uncle Greg did became legendary in the eyes of his nieces and nephews. His Howdy Howdy greeting could be heard from anywhere, and would create excitement in any house he showed up to. It meant Uncle Greg was here, the party can finally start.

He is an inspiration and role model. I love you very much Uncle Greg. Thank you for being my Uncle.
