Christine Lemakis (nee N’Dina), 90, was born September 21, 1934 and passed away on November 21, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Beloved wife of the late Harry Lemakis for 63 years, loving mother of Peter (Amie) Lemakis and Dorothea (Achilles) Karakas. Grandmother of Maria Lemakis, Angela (Sal) Caruso, and Maria Karakas. Sister of the late Vicky (John) Lodoly and the late Leo (Shirley) N’Dina, aunt, sister-in-law, godmother, and friend to many.
Christine graduated from McKinley High School in 1952 where she was crowned Homecoming Queen by her sister Vicky, the retiring Homecoming Queen.
She loved her church and met the love of her life, Harry Lemakis, at a St. Thomas Romanian Orthodox church dance in 1955. They were married at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on May 18, 1958. Her life centered around the church with activities such as singing in the church choirs (over 60 years), parish council, pan-orthodox events, dance group, women’s faith group, multiple committees and much more.
Christine also put her heart into many philanthropic efforts, such as the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) (past-president), Philoptochos (2003 Woman of the Year), grade school Mother’s Club (past president), Hellenic Spirit (Athena award), and more.
She retired from White Rodgers as an Administrative Secretary where she was honored as a top volunteer in the Leading Ladies charitable group. She was devoted to her family and all the above with a kind humble servant’s heart, a gentle spirit, and a smile.
SERVICE: Visitation, Sunday, December 1st from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm (Trisagion Service 7:00) at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123. Pre-funeral Visitation Monday, December 2nd, 9:00 am followed by 10:00 am Funeral Service at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave., St. Louis, MO 63108. Interment to follow at St. Matthew Cemetery.
