Beloved husband of Madonna “Kathy” Meissner (nee Schutzius); loving father of Jacqueline Reinsmith and Janice (partner Steven Sullivan) Meissner; adoring grandfather of Emma Reinsmith and Ray Simpson; dear brother of Sherry Gross and the late Lawrence Meissner and Carolyn Higgins. Our dearest brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
Donald Meissner was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Born to Lawrence and Viola Meissner. Don met his wife, Kathleen, in 1962 on the steps of Affton High School’s gymnasium. Together, they built a family that included their daughters, Janice Meissner and Jackie Reinsmith, and grandchildren, Ray Simpson and Emma Reinsmith.
Don worked for over 40 years at Garner’s Market, earning a reputation as one of the hardest-working people around. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, wine-making, knife-making, leatherworking, taxidermy, and caring for his chickens, ducks, and rabbits. His connection to the outdoors and love for animals defined much of his life.
He cherished his time with his grandchildren, teaching them about nature, animals, and the importance of family. His dedication to his family and his ability to make others laugh will not be forgotten.
Don is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters Janice and Jackie, and grandchildren Ray and Emma. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A burial service will be held graveside Friday, January 17, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 10180 Gravois. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Maggie O’Brien’s Sunset
Don was such a kind, funny man. He always had a smile on. Our hearts go out to his wife, Kathy, two daughters, grandkids and his many friends. He was pretty handy in his shop. He made my husband, Tom, several turkey callers, and even a bottle opener using an antler. He will be missed by many. Hugs!
I love you Dad, thank you for all you did for our family! You will live in our hearts for eternity. May you rest in peace, we miss you immensely!
We all love and miss you grandpa! Emma and I will always remember all the adventures you and grandma took us on. Most of the stuff I enjoy is because of you, you left a deep impression on me and I am so grateful to have been able to call you my grandpa.
We were so fortunate to get to call Don our neighbor. He taught us so many things, and we had a lot of good laughs together. He loved his family tremendously and we enjoyed hearing all the great stories he had of his life & raising his family in the neighborhood. He was always happy to show and share all the fun gizmos & gadgets & trinkets he had. We will never forget his kindness, generosity and friendship. He was the best, and will be dearly missed.
Dad, you were my rock, my teacher, and my biggest supporter. You showed me the value of hard work, the beauty of the outdoors, and the importance of family. I’ll never forget the hours we spent together and listening to all of your stories. Your love and wisdom shaped me into who I am today. I miss you more than words can say, but I know your lessons and your spirit will stay with me always. I love you forever.
Don was one of th most gracious human I ever met. I thank you with all my heart for helping raise such wonderful grandchildren. Love and prayers. John
