  3. Dear Drake,

Deepest condolences to you on the loss of your parents in less than two months. May you remember them fondly with great memories. My husband, Dr. Steve Hoffman, worked with your Dad for many years at SIU/SDM and always admired him. Your Dad was always gracious when I spoke with him. It was a blessing to know him.

  7. I had the wonderful honor of having Chuck as a teacher. He effortlessly made the lives of all of his students better and far more enjoyable through what most would likely consider the hardest 4 years of their lives in dental school. He was one of the kindest people I ever had the honor of working side by side with and I try to carry on that approach in my everyday life still. His memory will always continue to bring a smile to my face and I suspect the faces of many others.

  13. Dear respective family,
For me, hearing how he would say my name Aberrr with such compassion and then disclose such insightful information, while also passing jokes that I still use while also somehow keeping the patient and I smiling in the most stressful of times was his magic of who he was. He knew how to make every person he spoke to feel special. I genuinely loved his class and him and felt his warmth of a soul as I witnessed the impact he left on our community’s heart.
Truly, what a gift to be known by him. I send my condolences and prayers to his respective family and wish peace to them as well. Thank you for sharing this wonderful soul with us here at SIU , his legacy will always be strong that I know to be true.
    Sincerely

  14. Dr. Poeschl was the kindest teacher. He went out of his way to create a comfortable learning environment for all of his students. Each year before endo boards, he would use his own money to buy hundreds of endo practice teeth to give to students. Additionally, he would go around at the end of clinic to the remaining students with a bag of candy and say “want some candy, little girl”— always made me laugh after a stressful day! My deepest sympathy to Dr. Poeschl’s family. He will be dearly missed!

  30. Chuck was my classmate at BU Endo ’86-’88. Our class of 8 students/residents was less than the normal size of 11 then. Chuck was the kindest man we ever met. If we left behind a mess at places we gathered, he would be the one to take the initiative to tidy them up. He was very humble and low key and cared for everyone around him. Mary and he with their little son Mathew hosted many gatherings at their apartment when we were in Boston during our training. I as a foreign student, Chuck’s kindness made me felt at home. After we graduated many years later, Chuck was a faculty member at the SIU Dental School Endodontic Department while I was at Columbia University in 2009. He kindly invited me to give lectures at their Research Day and hosted me at his home. It was one of the most memorable experiences in my life. We have lost a most gentle, tenderhearted great man and a dear friend. I am honored to have crossed my life with him. Rest in peace, my friend. You will always be in my thoughts.

  33. Dr. Poeschl (He always corrected me with Chuck) was exactly as has been remembered by his students, colleagues, and friends. He was very helpful when confronted with a unusual clinical patient. One of my favorite stories is about him using his skills to care for my toothache on the Sunday of a Memorial Day weekend. When I contacted him, he replied come into the office if you don”t mind me in shorts and a t-shirt. Always welcoming at meetings and CE classes. I will miss him. I rejoice in the fact that he crossed my path. His legacy will be in the lives he touched. Blessings to his family.
