In Loving Memory

Rideout, Johnnie

Johnnie Rideout, 73, born in St Louis, MO at City Hospital #1; passed away on May 21, 2021 at home.   Preceding him in death were his parents Welton and Ruby Rideout, sister Sherryl Finley, brothers Donald and Charles Rideout. He leaves his wife Donna, daughter Gretchen Hente and sons John and Josh and his brother Morris. He had 3 grandchild, Benjamin Hente, Molly and Paige Rideout.  We can’t forget about his little dog Buddy who misses him already.

Johnnie Graduated from McKinley High School in 1967 and was then drafted into the army.  He was sent to Fort Sill, OK for basic training, and then went to AIT training in Fort Bliss, TX.  After training he was sent to Vietnam and spent 2 1/2 years there during the war.  When it was close to the time for him to come home, he told his high school sweetheart Donna Coibion, to get everything ready for a wedding when he gets home.  He arrived home in early May and they were married on May 31, 1969.  They have been together since that day.  This year they would be married 52 years, he didn’t quite make it to that day but he sure did try.   They loved each other with all their heart and were a great examples of what a marriage should be.   When he came home from Vietnam, he got a job working at Liberty supermarket and was there for 12 years.  He later had an opportunity to apply for a job at Procter & Gamble where he was hired and worked for almost 25 years then retired.

Johnnie loved his 3 children very much and was a great father and provider for the family. He enjoyed watching videos of Gretchen cheering at Basketball games and gave her many words of wisdom that have remained with her till this day.  He coached John’s little league baseball team and they had many victories.  Because of him, John was an excellent catcher.  He also worked with Josh in his backyard with practice catching and pitching.  He enjoyed watching both of his sons play football and wrestling.  He really enjoyed gardening and STL Cardinals baseball; and loved to sit around and talk sports with anyone who was interested.  His yard was always beautiful and had a fruitful garden for many years.  He was a hard worker and he enjoyed it. Tried his hand in wood working and made a cradle for his first grandchild, Benjamin.  He loved watching and spending time with his grandkids.  He enjoyed watching Molly grow up and wanted to encourage her artistic talent.   Had many laughs with Paige,  who would sing and dance for him.  They all brought him so much happiness.

His nieces and nephews would say he’s an all around good guy.  They love him and enjoyed hanging out with him.  He will be missed dearly.  We all are going to miss him, but know that we will see him again one day.  Please keep telling stories about Johnnie to keep his memory alive.

Love you,

Miss you,

Donna, Gretchen, John and Josh
