Scholz

In Loving Memory

Scholz, Rev. Michael P.

March 14, 1954 - March 5, 2024

Asleep in Jesus, Tuesday March 5, 2024.

Beloved husband of Amy Scholz (nee Poulsen) and the late Patricia Scholz (nee Simpson); loving father in Jay Linton and Terri (Jay) Wann; dear grandfather of Tyler and Nolan Linton, Hannah and Jaylnn Wann; dear son of the late Herman and Phoebe (nee Jagow) Scholz; dear brother of Connie, Jay and Tod (Beth) Scholz; dear brother-in-law, son-in-law, cousin, nephew, uncle, friend, Godfather and pastor to many.

Mike was born March 14, 1954 in San Diego, California. He was baptized on March 28, 1954 and confirmed on April 7, 1968. He attended Concordia High School and Concordia Junior College – Milwaukee, WI, Concordia Senior College – Fort Wayne IN and Concordia Seminary – St. Louis, MO where he earned a Master of Divinity in 1984.

He served four congregations in the ministry God called him to do as pastor – St. Luke Lutheran Church – Rensselaer, Indiana (1984 – 1989), Salem Lutheran Church and School – Affton, MO (1989 – 2001), Luther Memorial Lutheran Church – River Falls, WI (2001 – 2013) and Lamb of God Lutheran Church and School – Las Vegas, NV (2013 – 2023).

On December 31, 2023, he retired from the pastoral office and had the move to St. Louis, MO on March 2, 2024 where he and Amy planned to start a new chapter in his life being a retiree. Sadly, that plan was cut short due to a fall. But God showed His infinite grace and mercy by not letting Mike linger or suffer and called him home to be with his Savior – who Mike professed his love for all his life.

He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers. He loved to be with people – especially the children at the Lutheran churches and schools he served. Although far from perfect, many will remember him to be humble, kind and a faithful servant of God.

And as he was listed as a donor on his driver’s license, he was able to help with the gift of sight and the gift of skin grafting.

Service: Visitation at Salem Lutheran Church (8343 Gravois Rd. Affton, MO 63123) Saturday, March 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Huebner, Rev. Dr. Thomas Ries and Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich presiding. A light lunch will be provided by the church after the service. Service will be livestreamed. In lieu of flowers, Mike had requested in his funeral planning those gifts be made to Concordia Seminary – 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105 / www.CSL.edu/give to where needed most.

As Mike would say…God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good. Amen.

  3. Pastor Mike made a difference in the Newton and Halleen family. He showed up for Jonathan Newton’s flag football games. We cheered for the Packers together after church and supported all of us spiritually during our time in Las Vegas.

We are your biggest fan and will see you soon in the most glorious stadium of all!
