Vincent L. Sechrest, born on February 6, 1963, in Mountain View, Missouri, passed away on December 19, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 61.
He was the deeply loved partner of Jess, cherished son of Vernon and Mary Sue Sechrest (Sneed), devoted brother to Russell and Dena, dedicated father to Ryan, proud grandfather to Elise, adored nephew to Imogene and Ollie, and a loving uncle to Michael, Dakota, Ashley, and Katie. Always making time for his loved ones, Vince genuinely listened to each person’s experiences, offered thoughtful advice and encouragement, and never missed a family gathering.
After graduating from Kirkwood High School, Vince pursued his passion for learning, earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Boston University. His intellectual curiosity and thirst for knowledge shaped both his personal and professional life, guiding him toward a career driven by problem-solving and innovation.
In service to his country, Vince proudly served in the United States Air Force for 10 years as an Imagery Interpreter Specialist, stationed in Germany. His military service not only honed his technical expertise but also instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline, honor, and dedication. It was during this time abroad that he became fluent in German, a skill he carried with him and treasured throughout his life.
Following his military service, Vince spent nearly 30 years in the private sector, where he made a significant impact at Systems Service Enterprises (SSE). As a trusted leader and visionary in the development of technology solutions, his work helped clients across a wide range of industries navigate the complexities of IT. His leadership and expertise were instrumental in the company’s success.
Outside of work, Vince was a man of many passions. He was an avid traveler, with memorable trips to places like Alaska, China, and Hawaii. Whether biking along the Katy Trail, hiking through local parks, or visiting his favorite wineries, Montelle Winery and Sugar Creek Winery, Vince embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm. He also found joy in creating, including a beloved ABC book for toddlers that he dedicated to his granddaughter, Elise.
A lifelong reader, Vince always had a book on hand, ready to dive into a new story or adventure. He found peace in his quiet moments, feeding and observing the birds from his back porch while savoring a freshly ground cup of coffee. Vince also had a particular fondness for movies involving time travel and the supernatural, which sparked his imagination and sense of wonder.
Vince’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the wisdom he shared. He leaves behind a family and community who will continue to honor his memory through their own love of learning, adventure, and dedication to one another. While he is deeply missed, his spirit will always be a part of those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Vince’s honor to the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park. Vince loved visiting the sanctuary, often striking up conversations with staff and taking a genuine interest in their work and mission. This cause, close to his heart, is a fitting way to celebrate his love for nature.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, December 30th, 2024, from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Kutis Funeral Home in Affton (10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123). The service will begin at 10:30am, followed by Vince’s interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
