Stegmann, Hyland Dean (Sr.) of House Springs, Missouri was born December 3, 1934 in Washington, Missouri to Joseph Wheeler Stegmann and Eileen Emily Stegmann (nee Wideman). Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, he died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 16, 2024 in House Springs, Missouri at the age of 90 years and 13 days.
Dean had a great love for his faith and his family. He was happily married to Mary Frances “Frannie” Stegmann (nee Schlipp), the love of his life, until her passing four years ago. They enjoyed 64 joyous years together and were most proud of their wonderful family. His hobbies were fishing, bird hunting, reading, walking his woods and raising chickens. His favorite chicken was a banty rooster named “Ikie” that Dean trained to come when he called him and hop onto his arm.
He also served stateside as Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was trained in radar operations.
He showed us all how to live a life of faith and love to all who knew him, even in the midst of the joys and sorrows of life. Dean also had a ministry that involved setting up perpetual Mass intentions to be said for those who were ill or in crisis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sons Jay Lawrence Stegmann and Wesley Joseph Stegmann.
He is survived by five of his children, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Dad was also a Korean War veteran, and was very proud of his service to our country. He served stateside and I think he was trained in radar operation.
I will miss my reading buddy and surrogate grandfather. I know you’ll be interceding for me from Heaven. Love you, great grandpa! Until we meet again ❤️
JMJ — I have wonderful memories of Dean’s kindness and wit, in my many visits to the AFC St. Louis membership, especially in the early years of our Family Apostolate. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul, and trust that both he & Fran are interceding for us.

Dear Stegmann family, I first met Dean & Fran in 1979 when Wes and Kathy were married. Tricia & I were married in May, and they followed in August. My favorite story is about the time he took the TV into the backyard and shot it with a .22. That’s when I knew he was a tough dad. Wes and I painted the Stegmann house several years ago and Dean would always come out at the end of the day and check our work. Now that I’m older, I really appreciate his strong Catholic faith. I have wonderful memories of the Stegmann family, and I mourn their loss.
With love & respect – may he rest in peace,
Steve & Tricia Szymczak & Family
To the Stegmann family,
I met Dean in 2016 when I first came to Our Lady Queen of Peace. I really appreciate his strong Catholic faith, and that which I saw it in his family.
Even though I only knew Dean for a short time, I admired Dean’s kindness and wit.
I mourn your loss. Dean and the family are in my prayers

I was friends with Dean Jr. during grade school and the Stegmann Family was always kind and welcoming. Mr. Stegmann always struck me as an upright man and a strong father.
Our condolences to the Stegmann family, we will keep them and Mr. Stegmann in our prayers.
