Vickie was my boss, my co-worker, my mentor and most of all my good, good friend. She’d love you unconditionally but have your number too. She’d support you when you needed it and put you in your place when you deserved it. She represented the absolute best of what social work is about: she cared deeply for the people she served and always fought for what she believed in. She was proudly liberal but also very pragmatic and took life as it came.
I’ll miss the conversations about life, the work stories, the humor, the music and the good meals and drinks. I can’t ever recall a dull moment. Just since this week I’ve thought of a dozen things I couldn’t wait to tell her about.
I honestly can’t imagine a world without her. But her strength and humor and love will help us move on and live life better for having known her.

I will miss Vickie in my life as will all of those who knew her. She loved music and movies and her family and friends. She loved to laugh.
Jenny, Sarah, Jeff and families, my deepest condolences.

I met Vickie when my family moved here from Germany. I couldn’t speak English and she couldn’t speak German. Somehow we made it work. We started kindergarten together and graduated high school together. She was my sponsor when I became a US citizen. The last few years whenever we saw each other she always spoke of her girls and grandchildren. She was so proud of her family. She raised amazing kids and I’m so sorry for your loss. You mother will leave a void in all of our hearts.

My deepest condolences to Jeff, Jenny, Sarah and their families. Vicki was a kind and loving person and a devoted mother. She was always looking out for the needs of others and extraordinarily compassionate. I knew her decades ago, and I still have fond memories of our time together with Jenny and John as babies and toddlers before our paths went different ways. Vicki was so like her own mom in her generosity and caring for others.

Jenny, Sarah, and Family-I was very saddened to hear about your Mom’s death. And, at the same time it brought back a wave of memories from our time at the Independence Center. Whether or not she knew it, she was instrumental to me in my growth as a counselor and that of a person. I’ve never had another supervisor who would invite me to consider leaving with her mid-day to attend the Cardinal’s afternoon game! We had a lot of good times. Wishing you peace during this transition.
